Why Is Turkey In NATO?

The decision to allow Greece and Turkey into alliance stemmed largely from Cold War strategies against the Soviet Union. Greece and Turkey (both with firmly anti-Communist governments) were viewed by the West as bulwarks against Moscow and the spread of communism in Europe. Considering that the Korean War was on the horizon, fears of China and Russia expanding their influence into other parts of the world were realized. (Both Greece and Turkey contributed troops to fight in Korea).

Being a NATO member doesn't mean much. Argentina invaded Falklands and nobody helped Britain. Britain had to take back Falklands by itself. Being in NATO doesn't mean other NATO members will act if you get attacked. They may or may not. It's up to them.

And besides, if USSR wanted to influence Turkey, USSR would not invade Turkey. That would not go well with the Turkish population. USSR would have instigated an internal coup in Turkey like what happened in Ukraine in 2013.

Also France stopped all supplies of the deadly Exocet missile to the Argentines and so they simply run out of missiles to hit the UK Taskforce.

Yup. A country that can't make military hardware shouldn't take on a super power like Britain. It was sheer stupidity on Argentina's part. Other than killing several hundred men on both sides, the Falklands war served no purpose whatsoever.

To be more specific, Turkey perefered to be neutral during and after WWII but Stalin was not satisfied with the regime of straits, in his opinion soviets should have full access and a military base in Istanbul, another stupid idea of him was that parts of eastern Turkey should become part of soviets again.
There was a realistic threat of a soviet invasion but Turkey was in no shape to fight off this threat so it perefered to become part of NATO instead of soviet union.

In my personal experience Russians treat others far better than Americans treat others. Even if Russia has a base in Turkey, they won't mistreat Turks like Americans do. Americans threaten others if they don't obey Americans. Russians are friendly. Afghans loved Russians when they were stationed in Afghanistan to defend the Russia backed Democratic Republic of Afghanistan against Islamist rebels.

Turks decided to have American bases and rely on Americans instead of having Russian bases and rely on Russians like Syrians do, then they might as well find out how bad Americans really are.

If you are representing Turkey and bringing the case here that they are far superior militarily tell me which wars have shown that? It's easy to laugh at others in war whilst you're not in war.

As for flying it indeed is easy, every country, nationality, ethnicity can wield an air force and pilot a combat aircraft. It's just that pilot/fighter pilot has always been regarded as 'high status' thus we value it like we value doctors. It's the engineering that is difficult and only few are capable of that.

1967 hahaha. Let's see, that was what, over 50 years ago? lol Why don't you go back even further while you're at it? What happened 6 years later? Not only did the ARAB soldier redefine the modern era of ATGMs, but also redefined the precision, accuracy and potency of SAM systems. You say Combat Master? I'd say rather "nonobjective."

In the 6 day war of 1967 there was no air combat.. most Arab warplanes were hit at the tarmac.. it was a surprise attack.. get your facts right. and google what has happened in 1973 Ramadan war.. where in just one air battle called Al Mansoura, Usrael lost around 50 aircrafts and in the war that has lasted about a month where more than 360 Usraeli jets were downed by Arab pilots and even some by Pakistani pilots..

The fact is that Turkey has to take ALIS and be subjected to it as a kill switch or skip it and then get a downgraded (by NATO standard) F-35 ..The best thing that can happen to Turkey is to get permission for its own firewall..just like Italy, Norway and Australia are trying to do.. but it is not as easy as it might sound..the link with ALIS will still remain effective in the context of NATO..
