Does the PN need an aircraft carrier?

Hi,

How are you? 3 aircraft carriers----basically 3 battle groups---so possibly close to a 100 billion dollars worth of hardware in a certain area. That opens up all manners of retaliation from the opponent----in order for the carriers to launch their planes to strike the mainland, they will have to be in closer proximity---that makes them vulnerable to nuc strike right from the gitgo----.

A nuc strike would be the prefered strike---as it is over the ocean----no land mass involved---no civilian casualties---. The ocean is not so big to hide three battle groups---or 3 aircraft carriers with their escorts in this area---you are vulnerable to the enemy strike as the enemy is vulnerable to your strike.

The person who is going to lose the most in this confrontation will be the naval strike force---that one big loss will change the outcome of the conflict immediately----it is not worth it for the adversary to put that many a/c carriers in one place.

I mean to say---if you have another 5 aircraft carriers in reserve that can fill in---that will be okay---but just to place all your naval strength is not worth the shot.

But Mastan Khan sir will that not open pandora box of nuclear retaliation???? Is there a doctorine that says respond only if there is a nuclear strike on land??? Also what would the best way for a nuclear strike on AC???? The battle group will not allow submarines or kinds to sneak in a missile without first dealing with them, no????

INS Kukri was also accompanied by two other frigates. Any ways it was obvious why it wasn't at the west. Seems like Bossman has a point in his post. ;)

It was common sense. Any undue force on the West would cause India to fall out of favor in the world opinion. It would be aggressor against Pakistan instead of liberator of Bangladesh.

Because we don't need one

and we don't have money
and we have better priorities available
and we don't even have a destroyer yet :D

Will add one more to the list.
Look at the space we have to operate in. Dont have much room for a Carrier.

3 reasons why we don't have carriers

Cost- they cost alot and need an entire battle group to support them not to mention the high costs of planes, it would be more efficient to build/expand naval air bases on the coast of Balochistan and Karachi.

Need- We have a small coast, compared to india who would actually need an aircraft carrier.

Availability-Unless China is in it too I see no tother way of making one.

Aside from vessel availability, the key question is: "what plane would we be flying from our carrier?".

there are a couple of options but seem very unlikely; naval JF-17, naval J-10s and J-11s

An Aircraft carrier will cost Pakistan including fighters $5 billion.

Thats nearly half their entire FOREX reserve.

Or their entire annually ,military budget.

I DON,T THINK IT IS FEASIBLE FINANCIALLY.

Hi,

You are right---when confronting three carrier groups---we are already doomed---. Basically there is no way out---Indeed people downwind from nuc cloud would suffer---but being at sea lesser chance of nuc strike on land----but then desperate times call for desperate measures.

So---yes---it will be an all out----.

Our defence budgetis believed to be above 7 billion yet this year we bought? 4 500 Ton FACs,Jointly build AWACS,18 F-16s, A-100, SPADA,4 HQ-18 SAM,AMRAAM,ETC Worth billions,4 Fast attack crafts,Building a frig in K.S,new XDS LAV armoured vehicle,an MRAP under testing,115 M109A5, Goodies for JFT,upgraded old subs, AIP for all agostas,6 ASW Helis, More PC-3 Orions, new automatically uided anti tank missile, upgraded JFT,Tested 4 avionics on it,upgreaded AK-1,started producin our own AK series weapons, tender for 7 submarines, million of $$ worth com equipment etc etc........Remember our army isnt paid retirement or salary from our defence budget.............

Also our forex are more then $16 billion.

And yes we can afford an air craft carrier if we really want too...

Just buy a used one like india and upgrade it......... or just buy something like

You sure are a die hard pessimist.

why, whats wrong with it, they were close to 8% before WOT, something went wrong...and they are not doing good, but after WOT ends, they can gain the same rate. may not be super power but certainly wrothy having an Aircraft carrier.

Buy the way- AUz buddy -

you dont need to be a super power to have an aircraft carrier, some countries which are not superpower have these. its needs.

eerrm sorry for the misunderstanding but i meant the super power bit....if its about the carrier, sure they can buy one anytime.:agree:

What used carrier would that be, exactly? Which country has any available?

And as for mini-carrier like the Chakri Naruebet, what would you fly from it given that Harrier is out of production and being phased out of UK/US service?
