What's new

Does India really need supercarriers?

once you start building carriers, you have to continue building them in order to keep up with the tech surges, be it design, radar or arms. You cannot simply stop and start making carriers. We would be a fool to do that.

We should not buy any carriers in future, All indian A/C Carriers should strictly be made in india

which company is going to build the engine?
which company is going to build the radar?
the sonar?
the missiles?

wake up dude, your destroyer need to have weapons/components imported from a dozen nation to operate.

Engine=GTRE
radar=BEL<--they already do, they are working with Elbiet for the new AESA on the P-15A
Sonar=India builds its own, and apparently world class. Even the Talwars have Indian sonars.
Missiles=Carriers generally carry missiles for the aircrafts.
But I guess you know everything, thats why a IAC is underway, with a second one pending.

India definitely needs a super carrier, cause China are planning to build a bigger carrier . Not to mention the Varyag is bigger than the Gorshkov which these two nation will soon to have.

Frankly speaking i don't see those two carriers facing off ever so we should develop flexible and small carriers and India should concentrate on developing more advanced Subs..

i think we dont need to hurry for super carriers... our shipyards are doing their best to bring out the IAC1 as well sub marines.... and our focus should be put mainly on the N submarines.....

For all of you, I want to inform that Indian Navy already has plan to deploy at least 6 Aircraft Carriers by 2045, it is in the Naval Doctrine and Future Power Projection Capabilities. By the end of 2030 we will have 3 Active Aircraft Carriers with a fourth one standing for launch with much larger size than INS Vishal (65,000 tonnes), probably 80,000 tonnes & the next two carriers will have the same size of today's US Navy Super-Carriers and the planned Chinese Type 085 carrier with 95,000 tonnes & 1,10,000 tonnes respectibly. India will also need to develop its Submarine arm also & it will do that in future, as Indian Navy is projected to have at least 50 Submarines by 2045 with more than 20 Nuclear Submarines & 30 conventional Submarines. Don't worry Indian friends, India will maintain both the submarines fleet and Aircraft Carrier fleet very well because It will have the world's 3rd Largest economy by 2030....!!!!
