But why then wielding so much power women has not forced change in society??Sonia Gandhi is in power in your country....Why is she not using that power to address this issue??I understand that we men are to be blamed for a lot of it.But why aren't the women in power not taking steps to change the condition of their sisters in the society?If women really want to push for equal rights,shouldn't they also start the revolution?Or,are they waiting for men to change?

Women are in bad shape because they are not enough opportunities in India and poorer nations.

Of the available resources it is more practical to bet it all on the one who has the greatest probability to succeed. In a developing society, it is usually the male child.

Blaming the civilization for their pain in having to choose a male over a female child is like blaming the rape victim for the rape.


The day India becomes economically stable, I can say with confidence that Indian women will have far greater rights or equality than ANY other women from any other civilization.

women or men.. cannot single handedly change society and culture.. it will require a lot of time..
there are certain good steps.. for example xyz % of sarpanch will be women .. initially that created proxy sarpanch (and husband running the show) but it did empwer women... also grameen bank way of economic empowerment is a good step.

Things has to happen at village grassroot level, having woman on top wont change anything for ordinary women.

But yaar there should then be a serious problem in Pakistan and other Muslim countries. Because in most human societies, males are slightly more than females.

Now on top of that, you have official sanction for each of you to reserve 4 females for himself.

That further skews the ratio really badly.

So if there are 1000 men and 1000 women of sexual concordance, and 250 men take the 1000 women, what happens to the remaining 750?

In Pakistan I believe(just a speculation though) the practise of 4 wives is not very common. It is in Saudi Arabia for example.What they do is legal but shameful. They even take up young girls from Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kerala - just to marry. There were rackets that 'trafficked' girls to husbands. 'Trafficked' is in quotes because the age of marriage is not equal in India and Saudi Arabia.
