It was or is 7th based on the fact that BD population is 164 million. But new government stat put it is 144 million. So BD lost 2 position to nigeria and russia. Thats why it is placed 9th but with the count of 164 million population it is 7th.

There is something called as long-term planning.

You will find India at the same place where china is right now after a decade or two, think beyond the hemisphere of current geopolitical environment. Nothing is permanent in this world! Relationships with US were not this Good just 10 years ago(cough* cough* sanctions) and no one can guaranty that relationship with US will remain same 10 years from now ? Just think about the long- term implication of this decision (If done by BD) on India. As they say be cautious, and always think about future implications of decisions you/your enemy or your neighbor make's.

Just think a little....i hope u'll get the answer.

And my point was that since US already has a massive foothold in IOR region, it does not matter to us if they open one more base.Your point would have been valid had US been conspicuously absent from IOR region and Bangladesh would have been providing them with a foothold.

Yeah now that would be classic, everyone is speculating here and even BDians are not exactly aware of what's going on, to say that US is preparing to face off against India in the future...don't think so, to defy China...maybe. BD is too small in most aspects to actually encourage the US to diversify its attention from issues like Iran, WOT, economic slowdown, Syria, Russia(Missile shield) to push for a US BD setup right now.

Sri Lanka has exactly the same agreement signed with the US almost 5 years ago and their are no bases there and they have not deployed their troops at America's behest anywhere in the world. Give specific examples rather than made up ones.

The US intrudes in everyone's airspace once in awhile and no one can say anything. That is the way of the world and has nothing to do with signing this military agreement.

Not defense pact with the US. A defence pact with China like Pakistan has.

If we had signed SOFA then India would be in a far less position to push us around.



Trade routes that are essential for the survival of India and China.

Our main problem is that we do not have the experience and expertise to negotiate a military agreement like this.

Dude india's main rival is china, USA's main rival is china. There is a huge chance they will work in india's favour.

And you are senior member here. god grief. Who told you that you need an ally only in war like situations. You can do financial collaboration, cost effective loans and creating basic infrastructure. It was a 2.5 decade long propaganda war run by India and its agent RAWamy League to break Pakistan using a fake Bengali nationalism that ultimately succeeded to create a civil war. It is a war for India, by India and created by Indians with great loss of lives of non-Indians. The great strategic beneficiary from this war of course was India, which tells us who should take responsibility for the loss of lives. So Indian deception actually brought great success for India and the effort to continue this deception using RAWamy league continues.

Japan is nobody's b11tch, they are just laying low for the time being and watching the situation develop. When the time comes they will move silent and fast like the Samurai they are. South Korea, may be, but they will follow and work with their older brother and master Samurai. If there is no Japan and no little brother South Korea in the leadership roles, I would have little hope of a future ASEAN+ group. With a billion people, it will not only balance China, but India as well, which is all good for US/West as it will remain allied with US/West and protect ANZ as well, against any Chinese or Indian aggression, keep trade routes free and ensure regional balance and stability.

There is also huge geopolitical implications for empowering the 1.6 billion strong Muslim world, when and if an ASEAN+ takes shape. It will mean that the fragmented Muslim world will then become more closely allied with ASEAN+ than any other powers such as US/West, China or India. I will discuss those in other more appropriate threads.

And as usual some clueless pdf Indians are getting heartburn and making nonsense posts to make sense of sudden US attention given to "insignificant" Bangladesh, even when other sane ones are pointing out the obvious.

Best approach for Bangladesh? Keep you head low, while at the same time secure your interests (which we aren't exactly doing).
