See this.. In 2006 China's GDP( nominal)= $2 trillion.. But look at above graph. Your air pollution rate was much worse than today's India's..

It explains geography and climate impact environment heavily. Cities locating in tropical area rarely have air pollution problem.

You forgot to mention the important bits, 76+ of PM10 and 54+ PM 2.5 is classified as High under UK's Daily Air Quality Index.

Auckland is the most polluted city in NZ and the pollution regularly exceeds the limits set under the national standard but PM10 above 20 is considered over the standarad in NZ.

Last week, the air in London was really bad. I walked from Marble Arch to Piccadilly Circus for dinner and when I blowed my nose, it was all black like when I was in China. In the London tube, you literally can see the dust particles floating in the air.
