What's new

Defence budget up by 18 percent

If we spend more on education then we would have more skilled professionals but jobless....
And yeah we pay withdrawal taxes....

the problem we had and have is we always look at the front side of a mirror and always sets short term goals.
I personnally believed we should spend 15% of our budget in education for th next 5 years and then we can rduce it to 5% or so.
Upcoming youths are the assets of a nation and we are not encouraging those guys because the problem is we are still living in past century era where education is not so important and all worldly wars were won through armies now the scenario is changed and new wars are fought on educational grounds, science and developments.

condemnable, esp where we are getting no results.... pakistan is not in the condition of spending more on defence

I totally agree, but bhayia if there is no country left then what education going to do? I would say 50-50 is pretty good option. Look at India they just buying buying, we can't just sit and do nothing. We are small country, we need to protect country first.

mr bhayia, our country is not made for our army, its made for pakistanis, if army cant protect borders from drone attacks, cant create peace in the country, there is no need for army, if we cant keep up with the development and public welfare economic growth, or spending more on defence is like protecting the destroyed city

Only if the leaders of Pakistan had the capability to decide what was best for them to develop as a nation..instead they insisted upon fighting sometimes openly, sometimes via proxy war against a neighbour which has always been more powerful....

The budget increase is sought due to WOT and the issues in NW region.....you Indians need to look beyond your nose.....proxy war? WTF!

Agree with Omar1984 completely.
We need to spend more on education, but our defense should remain a primary focus.
And if India honestly believes in its own statement that 'Pakistan only perceives India as an enemy', then why do our friends across the border still have such a large presence on the border with Pakistan ?

Side Note: Change the captial from Islamabad back to Karachi and do what Quaid did, i.e. to approach foreign investors directly and encourage them to invest in Pakistan. Apply open-skies policy to the airport there to entice more transit routes through KHI.

First of all we need to get some facts straight

Indian defence budget is almost equal to Pakistani annual budget..so if you think you can match India by higher defence allocations then you can't.

Second Pakistan says it has nuclear first strike policy because it can not match Indian conventional capabilities..which in way makes sense but what does not makes sense is, then why does Pakistan allocate more than twice India's defence budget to GDP ratio?

Another misconception here is that this budget has been increased because Pakistan in involved in WOT...WOT budget is separate and above this one.

For India, Pakistan is not a threat but has nuisance value attached to it..to be exact it is Pakistan's continued support/turning a blind eye to its strategic assets which also happen to be terrorist organisations is very irritating to us.
Hence we maintain large force on our border to dissuade you from such activities...it goes without saying..it has achieved mixed success over the year.

Pakistan before getting involved in WOT also had majority of its forces deployed on Indian border as a matter of fact it still does..but actual numbers might have decreased since the start of WOT.

However point is Pakistan did not withdraw forces its Eastern borders because it wanted to or unilaterally took this initiative in the intrest of peace in the region but because it had to ..so why should we reciprocate..because we don't have too.

^^ how WOT budget is separate ....??

I have explained it earlier also..that how Pakistan's defence budget is divided into 3 separate heads

1) General defence- Rs442 billion allocation last year.
2) WOT- approx 160-165 Billion allocation last year
3) 70- 72 Billion on armed forces pensions etc
4) on the top of it your "government has allocated Rs 110 billion for the Armed Forces Development Plan, ongoing anti-militancy operations and a key defence initiative. " in mid part of last year.

Pak's defence allocation Rs 675 billion, not Rs 442 billion: Official

Net total of Pakistan's last year defence spending stands at Rs785 Billion or $9.2 Billion

So question is how much have rest of the budgets increased?..because this general defence budget has increased from Rs 442 Billion by 18% to 500 Billion.

I still feel 6 billion is small for Pakistan. It should be up to 12 billion or 1/3 of India's. This will reduce the threat perception and capablities perception quite a lot.

why not more on education and healthcare.....?

very bad news indeed

18% is too less..At least 30% increment was expected..

The budget increase is sought due to WOT and the issues in NW region.....you Indians need to look beyond your nose.....proxy war? WTF!

I am not questioning the decision of increase in budget.these are all short term attempts to control a situation that has been created due to decisions taken long back.Since its creation,Pakistan has been more militarily involved, sometimes in its western border, sometimes eastern, sometimes beyond boundaries.A little inward-looking policy would have been much better in the long run.

Besides, there is no need to generalize,no need to take things personally either. And dont tell me the phrase 'proxy war' is something totally new and out of the box that you are hearing.Pakistan has been way too much deeply involved,to deny it.The same, has in fact being confessed by top leaders of Pakistan at times.

I believe sometimes learning from the enemy is not such a bad thing....How different is Pak position from India's when China was on the boom and we were on the verge of bankruptcy back in 90's???? I would like all the members to do some introspect and then comment. There is no way Pak can match India spending spree on defense. We are doing it without hurting our economy...the same cannot be said about Pak....The only way Pak can do something about it is by improving her economy and the building blocks for such a thing is investing in Infrastructure, Education etc etc....

May be most members will not agree but having peace with India is far more important for Pakistan than for India at the moment...Same was true for us in 90's and thankfully our strategists could figure it out and results are in front of us....

India will increase her defense budge next year as well and will continue to do so for quite sometime now....Pak will not be able to match it every time even if matching means minimal credible deterrence.....Hopefully things will improve for good but such moves make you feel other way(Hope that i am wrong)

Hence we maintain large force on our border to dissuade you from such activities...it goes without saying..it has achieved mixed success over the year.

So you try to dissuade supposed terrorists with your armored / mechanized divisions and air fifth gen. aircraft ?
Overkill is you ask me.

If there is troop reduction on the Indian side, then there naturally be a decrease in troops on our side. We only maintiain enough numbers to present a strong line of defense.

We have wasted many time in the past like the time since 1990 to 2001.
we should had boost our economy in that time.
The time we have now is to invest our money In defence too because upcoming time are very difficult for the world and it will requires modern weapons and technologies b/c i feel the war is emminent in future but we have balance between defence and education other than can be compromisable.
