Russia population was 140 million. USA population is 320 million. That is not quarter. The USSR had more people than USA. The F-16 was inducted when USSR existed.

F-16 is single engine. You can build 6 single engine for 1 double engine. US doesn't have 1000 F-15 or F-18. You are comparing apples and oranges. Please compare single engine with single engine, double engine with double engine.

Can Russia even build a capable single engined combat aircraft ? I cannot find anything in their inventory.

Boeing 777 is twin engined. Boeing 747 is four engined. Is that going to increase or decrease the number of Boeing commercial jetliners ?

Distance Moscow Vladivostok is 6400 km. That's called intercontinental distance. Yeah. Look it up! Russians make large double engine planes which have enough range to cover Russia. Can't say the same about America. Distance Los Angeles New York is 3900 km. That's not intercontinental distance. So America don't need long range fighter jets to cover America. Yeah. Look it up!

I would not consider mig-23 and mog-27 sucesses. Mig-21 would be the last successful single engine fighter from USSR/Russia. That was close to 60 years ago
