Dassault is preparing to recieve a contract for 72 Rafale jets from Qatar marking its first export order.

According to a French government official, a contract would probably come in two batches of 36 aircraft. Negotiations would last about a year but the contract would be less complex than one signed with India.

The deal with Qatar will mark Dassault's first export contract before it completes negotiations with India for 126 fight aircraft.

The Rafale was in competition with the Euro fighter Typhoon and Boeing’s Super Hornet F-18 and F-15 Strike Eagle.

Benoît Dussaugey, DA’s senior executive vice-president (international), last year, said that the “whole world acknowledges the high performance of Rafale” and also pointed out that while it was true Saudi Arabia went ahead with its Typhoon jet deal, the UAE had backed out of it citing budgetary restraints.

Any TOT part of the deal?
Or will all the aircrafts be manufactured in France and just delievered to Qatar?

Qatar is so tiny and so rich that I dont think they are keen on developing a local defense industry for which they will depend on foreign workers.

you havent heard about the fallout between Qatar and SA/UAE?

It's a disagreement first of all. Not a total fallout. Nothing that cannot be solved. In fact it has largely been solved already in relation to the MB. The Syria issue is also going to be solved and when that happens the disagreements are few in between.
Great for Qatar and the already very impressive total fleet of the GCC.

What unites us is stronger than what divides us. ;)

Rift within GCC ‘coming to an end’

Good, I just heard about the fallout, didnt follow up on what happened later.

Also, hasnt SA rejected Rafale so I dont see Qatar manufacturing Rafale at home.

GCC foreign ministers to meet over Qatar agreement

The meeting on Monday will be the fourth by the GCC ministers to review the committee’s reports

Manama: The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will hold a meeting on Monday in the Saudi capital Riyadh to discuss progress on the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement to help ease tension between member countries.

The assessment talks will be on the sidelines of the regular meeting of the GCC foreign ministers, the 131st to be held since the establishment of the Council in 1981.

Kuwait’s foreign ministry undersecretary Khalid Al Jarallah whose country is the current GCC chair has expressed optimism about the outcome of the meeting.

Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on March 5 in an unprecedented move pulled out their ambassadors from Qatar to protest against what they called Doha’s lack of commitment to the GCC principle of not interfering in each other’s internal affairs.

An agreement was reached in Riyadh on April 17 and Qatar pledged to honour its clauses, prompting the GCC to set up a committee to monitor the implementation.

The meeting on Monday will be the fourth by the GCC ministers to review the committee’s reports.

Although no details have transpired from the committee discussions, officials mainly in Oman, Kuwait and Qatar insist that progress has been made and that the spat is over.

However, other reports say that the situation is much more intricate than expected, which explains the non-reinstatement of the ambassadors almost three months after they were recalled and one and a half month after the Riyadh agreement was announced.

The GCC is made up of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

KSA doesn't want the Rafale. But the UAE, yes. It's the goal from the beginning :
