" Coward' Police flayed over DI Khan jail break: Our heads hang in shame ..

If such an incident had happened in a developed country, there would be investigations into all aspects: police conduct, police training, police equipment, government conduct.

Only in Pakistan, we get opportunistic finger pointing but no useful lessons learnt for the next, inevitable, attack.

The real headaches will start when these sort of attacks increase in frequency to the point where utter lawlessness prevails as a prelude to widespread civil strife.

.
Really? My first thought upon reading the article is that Ali Amin, admitting the truth and his humiliation, has bigger balls than anyone else in Pakistan, save perhaps Malala.

Of course, he's not exposed to danger the way the police are. As far as I know (which isn't much) Pakistani police have access to good weaponry. I've long argued that more of their money should be spent on forensics: hard evidence is the way to convict people who are well-connected or can rely on cousins to provide false alibis.

Yet when it comes to a lack of courage en masse I believe it isn't the individual who should be blamed as much as their training and leadership. Isn't it time for the new broom to sweep clean?

Yes we brown people aren't as brave as the great jews. yawn.

People will shrug it off.

Dozens of targeted killings in Karachi for decades, and no one is bothered.

There is a difference between targeted killings by a political mafia and widespread lawlessness affecting all major cities. Breakdown of civil authority is my real concern here.

he is just another elite living in tight security, found easy way to bash policemen. Can he say the same about PA? :disagree:

Widespread lawlessness is also taken in stride. It has existed for a long time in many cities around the world: Jo'burg, Rio, ...

Pakistanis will simply do what they always do:
no electricity? buy a generator
no water? hire a water truck
no schools? private school
no security? hire private security guards

The first link reports as "They were scared to enter the jungles" but they still went inside didnt they... everybody is scared of death but dat doesnt mean they denied of going inside the jungles... read more about operations in the Maoist regions and u shall have ur answers!!

on second link!! one injured life was against six fit men!!! any weak links could have been death to all of them!! the report itself justifies their reason to leave him behind which was "GET SAFE" and get help!! which was successfully done!!

Comprehend the difference between, taking stock of the situation, briefing, planning, calculating before launching an operation and one where without warning coming under heavy attack in pitch darkness..... as you admit every one is scared of death.

Don't act stupid and idiot. Did Terrorist cut off electricity, rain down RPG-7 rockets, heavy machine guns, wore night vision so they can see in dark while fighting indian Police???????

No they don't while Pakistani police had to face these things

Is there a cut off line after which it is ok to hide in sewers ?

Provincial revenue minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Wednesday declared the Dera Ismail Khan jailbreak incident an act of cowardice on part of local police and said tough action would be taken against those responsible for the debacle.
Really? Passing the buck is the usual game played by politicians to cover their a$$es. It is more due to the abject failure and incompetence on the part of the administration which this minister presides over. What did this worthy do to ensure foolproof security of a high profile jail? Did he do a threat analysis to arrive at the minimum force required to guard the premises? I'll eat my hat if he did!

And what action was taken by the administration to beef up security after intel inputs pointed toward a likely attack on the jail by militants? Nix!

wrong to criticize policemen , Why should they die when the CM of a province is such a big pu$$y , wonder what goes inside ..

Fair enough. I won't call it cowardice and lack of weapons if true is a genuine excuse too.

However there sure seems a bit of confusion in the minds of the police if one judges by this or previous bannu attack. They don't seem entirely convinced the attackers are their enemies, certainly not enemies enough to risk lives, and the actions of the political class in KPK and other places seems only to add to that confusion.

But Mumbai policemen, even those armed with sticks did not run away, whereas the DI khan police were in a fortified position. Of course its not about cowardice, its just confusion in the minds of these people. Mumbai police had no such confusion. The policeman who caught kasab had only a stick and died catching him, but he did.

Yes, you are correct in that the people of Pakistan always have shown great resilience and resourcefulness in dealing with huge problems that would destroy other places. It is just that a limit to both these adaptive qualities must exist, or can we assume that no limits apply here so that we can deal with whatever is coming our way?

You are right, but sometime even in developed countries some incidents or actually let go off.
Coming back to the topic, the investigation was completed very next day and some senior officials including ssp elite police and dsp got suspended. We can blame the training, which failed to encourage the personnel and create the willingness to fight no matter what.

Am not sure if this behavior can be termed as resilience. Selfish more like it, basically not giving a shyte till something happens to one of their near and dear ones.

Even if that is at the top of your mind - for I never brought up this topic - how is it an excuse for Pakistanis not to try harder? Indeed, why shouldn't the example of "the great jews" - I presume you mean the Israelis - serve to inspire rather than drive you to apathy or despair?
