Could Iran Sink a U.S. Aircraft Carrier?

Well I think we do not need to destroy it completely what we need is just some damage to make it out of service. what if we just hit the aircraft carrier bridge and radars mounted on it?would it make them useless?

For example:

This incident resulted in 28 deaths and 344 injuries. There were 17 aircraft damaged and 15 destroyed.

If you want to make a modern aircraft carrier out of order you must destroy radars and damage several decks also a hule damage is nice but you must not overdo it . just cripple it . killing it is just not nice . after all there is 11 more of them that you rather stay were they are.

If Iran wants a war with US, yes they can shoot US aircraft carrier.

Thats exactly the plan. Only the first few weeks is important, and create deterrence for the high intensity phase. Otherwise any war must end immediately or Iran will lose.

Also Without nuclear torpedo you probably can't sink a carrier.

You can do it . have you ever heard of killing with a thousand blow.

By the way unlike what you may think sturdier ships in USA arsenal is not their modern ships its their old ww2 era battleships . they simply today's won't make ships as they did in those days and some of those ships have been sank

well , IMO the people who have to order such attack , won't risk their luxury life and won't order such an attack ... so if there is no order for resistance , there won't be any meaningful resistance .... in any war with USA we will face something like Shahrivar 1320 ....
do you think they will risk their bank account and family in the western countries by attacking USA aircraft carrier !?

In t he case of the war they say to themselves we can surrender like what Iraq did and then all of us will be hanged like what happened to Saddam officials and all those bank account mean nothing they can be confiscated with a signature or we can fight back. and look at countries like Vietnam and tell me how many of their officials get hanged by American installed government .


By the way don't forget 2 or 3 years ago they restructured Iran army force and made it decentralized . so be assured in case of war you can find one who order the attack if all other refrain from it.

I doubt the artesh will fight, can you tell an artesh member who doesn't even receive his full paycheck to die for a government that doesn't respect them enough to pay them and give better budget? Or is willing equip them well enough to be effective in the battle field & body armor.

Destroying it is a long shot, but not strictly impossible. An interesting approach the IRGCN has taken with regards to “destroying” an Aircraft Carrier (AC), is by using Ballistic Missiles guided via a Telemetric System:

However, crippling it beyond operational use is certainly achievable. I’ve come up with a make-shift idea;

1.) Immobilise, by targeting the engine rudders using Valfajr Torpedoes (this’ll make it a sitting duck):

2.) Target bridge using Khalije-Fars Missile:

Then finish bombard the runway if necessary; the ACs prime purpose will now be out of use. This doesn’t take into account possible EW Warfare against the missiles or the ACs CIWS system.

Also, wouldn’t be such a gold find if a US F-18 Super Hornet slid off the AC, and Iran salvaged it from the Persian Gulf for reverse engineering!
