Copy copy copy!!!

Pakistani songs has made Indian directors, or those who claim the song is their's, rich while the original Pakistani song writer and Pakistani singer is left with no piece of the pie.

If you think that's fair then its not even worth talking to you.

Why can't you Indians open your eyes and see that stealing someone's hard work and claiming its your's is WRONG.

Can you claim the 100% work of Pakistan Artist are original and there is no plagiarism\copying involved......

Lol!. Which song? when?. Firstly music comes from the heart. A true musician never runs out of talent. That is why Mukesh/Lata Mangeskar/ A.R Rehman are known are epitomes of music. You guys love to associate yourselves with all the great things about India so much that it is beginning to look disgusting.

On the contrary, it is Pakistanis who are copying Indian music. For instance Jai Ho! was turned into some stupid lawyer agitation song by someone in Pakistan and became a hit from Lahore to Karachi. How do you explain that?

Did you even look at the first page of this thread. Its you Indians who love to associate all the great things about Pakistan and it looks disgusting. Using classic Pakistani songs and making a cheap version of it does not make the songs Indian.

I never heard of Jai Ho, 1 indian song doesnt compare to the dozens of Pakistani songs Indians stole from Pakistan and called it their's.

Open your eyes and see what your industry is doing.

I can't say that, but your movie/music industry is a multi-billion dollar industry mainly because you got over 1 billion people in your country. If Pakistan movie/music industry stole 1-2 Indian songs it doesn't compare to the dozens of Pakistani songs that are used in Indian films without the permission of the original artist, and I'm sure a multi-billion dollar industry like Bollywood can afford to pay these Pakistani artists but they dont. They steal their songs and then claim its Indian. You pay only few Pakistani artists for their songs but the majority of Pakistani artists dont get paid a single rupee and then the whole world who watches Bollywood thinks its Indian music when actually its 100% Pakistani.

. . .
Actually there is no stealing involved since the original song is still available - it is copyright infringement. And Copyright is not a natural property or right like land or gold is. It is a limited monopoly granted by the government of the State. If the law of the land says remixes are legal, they are legal. If it says there is no property rights over some types of music, there is none. And no government, no copyright.

US in its early independence (until 1900's I think) refused to respect English copyrights, and as a result had access to cheap books and education. Ignoring copyrights is not an unheard of concept. Same goes for Indian CDs/DVDs in Pakistan, I guess - if the Pak govt says they are not going to prosecute Pirates, then nothing much anyone can do about it except trying to get them to sign a treaty.

The songs and music of subcontinent grew by people copying and retelling others stories and songs. What would all the Qawwali singers sing if only the original songs could not be sung by someone else ?

- The above is not my views exactly, but I am taking a morally defensible position on this issue. Hopefully people can discuss without accusations of stealing and mudslinging countries.

You're talking about maybe five years ago. Pakistani authorites have clamped down very hard on video-dvd piracy, especially for those exporting it. Most of the pirate dvd's these days are coming from bangkok and hong kong. Why not argue with your chinese friends about that.

Bharat banned Pakistani films, in the 1960's, which was reciprocated by Pakistan. If Bharat and Pakistan can come to an agreement, then Bharati and Pakistani films can be legally launched in the respective countries.

As for copying Pakistani music, without permission, there is no other word for it, apart from stealing.

How much would it cost for a Bollywood producer like M. Bhatt (whose a notorious plagiarist) to pay the poor ghazal writer, or the composer who is living in one bed flat.

Just because these humble musicians, composers and lyricists have not caused a roar and fuss, doesn't mean the act of stealing of their life's work is morally justified.

Pakistani movie makers and singers couldn't really get away with stealing Bharatia work, as most people would have heard it anyway. On the other hand, many classical Pakistan films of the 50-70's have been copied in Bollywood. Plagiarism works, if the audience is not aware of the original being copied.

The issue is plagiarism and no one can justify it. But what is the point in making it an India-Pakistan issue?

A lot of individual works within India are copied by rich film makers and composers. Bollywood is sheer business and nothing else. No one is doing social service by making movies. Movies are made to make maximum profits. It is the height of capitalism. No one is shy of going to any lengths to maximize profits.

Ethics in business are only as good as the law of the land coz seriously no big company has ever been successful by adopting only ethical means. Tax evasion is an example which is equivalent to robbing a state.

The Indian constitution protects the interests of Indian artists. Any producer or composer however rich he may be can be dragged to court and penalized heavily if proven guilty.

Pakistani gov can file litigation against any offender and bring them to court if is really serious about protecting the interests of its artists!

They'll presumably have to approach the same system of litigation, which eventually pronounces a judgement just before the end of the lifespan of hte litigant.

Someone working for Bollywood who steals a Pakistani song and claims its him/her who created the song and makes millions out of it while not giving anything to the original Pakistani song writer/composer is WRONG.
