The burial of actor Priyanka Chopra’s grandmother has stoked a controversy in the Jacobite Syrian Church in Kerala.

A day after the Church Synod divested its Kottayam Bishop, Thomas Thimothios, of all duties for facilitating the funeral of Chopra’s grandmother Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri, alias Mary John, the church head, Catholicos Baselios Thomas, nullified it Friday .

Holding that denial of a funeral is against Christianity, Bishop Thimothios had facilitated the burial at church cemetery at Ponkunnam, in Kottayam, last Sunday.
Akhouri, 93, died in Mumbai on June 3 and the body was flown to Kumarakam, Kottayam, two days later, as her family members wanted to keep her last wish: a funeral at Kumarakam church, where she was baptised as a child.

However, the local parish and its committee objected, contending that Akhouri was not a member of the church, as her name had been removed following her inter-caste marriage with Dr Akhouri. But, Bishop Thomothios intervened and allowed the funeral at another church cemetery.

What a cheap move on part of Church synod to go after the Bishop for facilitating the funeral for Priyanka Chopra's grandmother.

Dont you really have another work apart opening threads to demean or blame Churches and Christians .. Church has every right to accept or deny, Church Cemetry are only for deceased members .. not to those who left Church and come back again for the final rites.. If sufficient space is there, then you can ask .

I am glad you printed the guidelines for allowing burial of non-Christians, specifically of non-Catholics, in those two kinds of cemeteries. It allows us to see that the Synod was disastrously wrong in pushing out the Bishop.

How is this relevant? Different religions may have completely different observances, and we cannot compare these across religions.

Cemeteries are community owned an administered by councils everywhere in the world.

I become Anti hindu just because, I posted thread on Adityanath ...I tried share my view... Possible reason could be.. Suddenly some guy bring a jesus pic .. I know it is stupid to think such ... but those stupidity is not only subjected with Christians.. It such idiotic claimes happens in every religious.. I just pointed one such cases.. why being selective on Chriatianity.. I told them not to drag me in Religious yet again they did.. Last 5 threads i posted related to SU 35 deal, Unioin minister remark as well as Aditya nath.. common what is wrong posting it.. How many threads these guys posted on Priyanka chopra mothers... these guys keep thinking my stance is anti hindu just because of thread posted on Aditya nath.. why don't these guys admit... there are black era in every religion.. why pointing out one particular or being selective ...

How you are going to say wrong??? There is limited space for Cemetry .... Even within Christians many churches will not allow others within its cemetry... you have to understand there will be protest from Church members , If Church allow other than members..

Limited space was never the issue. It was always at root about 'hallowed ground', although nobody in this discussion seems to be aware of that. On the other hand, the attitude of truly bigoted Syrian Christians, especially their elders, is illustrative of all that is worst among believers, whatever sort they are, whichever religion they are.
