Army of Islam with support from Saudi Arabia try to turn Syria into a state only for Sunni Muslims. Christians lived in Syria hundreds of years before the birth of Islam. The oldest church in Syria is more than 600 years older than the oldest mosque in Syria. So Christians have every right to every right in Syria.

Christians in Syria mostly live in the big cities like Damascus, Aleppo. Homs, which dominate Syria's politics. Christians in Syria have far bigger political power per capita than Sunni Muslims in Syria do. Syria's speaker of parliament is Christian.

The mistake Assad made was that the demands prior to the war were mostly reasonable, they just didn't want to be ruled by a minority alewite dictator indefinitely

If he was smart he should have seen the writing on the war and started to change Syria including enshrined laws protecting the minority and giving majority more power and leadership
