Hundreds of thousands of South Koreans live in China on a semi-permanent basis, as do 1-2 million Taiwanese.

You are relying on late, outdated sources.

Back in 2007, the South Korean embassy in Beijing recorded 700,000 of my people living in China. But, the depreciation of Korean won and the global economic crisis that happened in 2008 changed the motivations of South Koreans about China in 2 to 3 years. When Beijing did the Sixth National Population Census in 2010, they found only 120,750 South Koreans still in China.

Major Figures on Residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and Foreigners Covered by 2010 Population Census

Many Taiwanese flock to China because the Taiwanese are technically Chinese, so its no problem for either Taiwanese or mainlander Chinese. Koreans are different than Taiwanese, so I don't know why you are comparing Taiwan to South Korea.

The context of the post was Nihonjin talking about Japan's demographics.

Smoking set to kill one in three young Chinese men as country faces 'epidemic' | World news | The Guardian
Smoking will kill about two million Chinese in 2030, double the 2010 toll, according to researchers who warned of a “growing epidemic of premature death” in the world’s most populous nation.

“About two-thirds of young Chinese men become cigarette smokers, and most start before they are 20. Unless they stop, about half of them will eventually be killed by their habit,” said the article’s co-author Zhengming Chen from Oxford University.

...consumes over a third of the world’s cigarettes, and has a sixth of the global smoking death toll.
If this keeps up, China can kiss that dream of being a global superpower -- goodbye.

Did you read the report?

I actually read it, and the heading has been way dramatized.

In reality the adult mortality rates in China have decreased.

The only thing the paper is claiming is that the proportion of deaths related to tobacco attributable disorders have gone up. The total deaths or the mortality rate has actually gone down.

It is not just the smoking. It is the combination of many things that will affect China's demographic in the long run, so negative that even China's own social scientists are worried. The one-child policy created a couple of generations of Chinese that do not have uncles and aunts. A portion of the these single children leave China for good. Some will die from pollution. Some from accidents. Usually a society will produce enough to replace these losses. But the one-child policy is unnatural and even the Chinese themselves admitted it.
