in the korean war, china started at the yalu river in 1950. in 1951 we were at the 38th parallel. in 1953 we were still there. in 1950 the americans said "to the yalu by christmas!". They ended up pushed 300 km south and their general died. we won because we were fighting on land. china has engaged in large scale land warfare for most of its history, korea is familiar ground. on the sea? our navy can't compare back then. but now we have the 3rd largest navy. still far too weak though.
besides, what can india do? a few terrorists in mumbai killed 160 people and the army couldn't do anything. india also never had a 300 km push into enemy territory 1 year after national establishment against a superpower with 17 allied nations.

In the war, victory goes to the one who captured the ground. China had more human resources and UN had more firepower.
