China versus India - a thorough analysis

But the elephant seems unwilling to move on, although there is enough external motivation.

We do have 6% growth in-spite of all the bureaucratic hurdles like corruption and incompetency. As someone said India moves while the govt. sleeps. Imagine if our govt.(big fat elephant) moves in tandem then we could achieve 9% to 10% growth.

And of course, Freedom! I not the Chinese have risen over such insignificant issues. But real humans like to have freedom too.

Green: Free
Yellow: Partly free
Purple: Not free

In some ways, America has less freedom than India, such as crapping on the street. Americans have no such freedoms. Indians do. Seems like this would be your response to the OP.

In America, if...., we can also have 10% growth as well.

Well, the ultimate Goal of life is to have a happy and contented existence, and not just obsession with shiny toys:

Happiness index:(Happy planet Index)

India : 32 ( Bangladesh and Pakistan are even better at 11 and 16)

China : 70!

I agree, BD has done better in many areas and we in India do recognize that.

Yes I think we would live a happier life if we just all use narcotics, or mmm some kind of religion that makes us believe that if we suffer most in this life, we will have angelic life after death!

The 1st entry is in PPP terms。

The figure for China is totally wrong, for the PPP conversion factor was derived from census conducted over 30 coastal cities where the cost of living was way higher than the rest of China, especially the populous central and western provinces。

The UN is in the midst of a new study on China, the result of which should provide a far more reliable PPP measurement of the Chinese economy。

If you talk about social index, BD surpluses India in many areas. 1 eg:
life expectancy overall:

India:65
Bangladesh:70

even though bangladesh economy not even close to Indian economy.

what it shows is that to achieve quality of life you don't have to have high per capita index. If your willing to share what you have with your people then you can beat the developed world.

Suit yourself....or try your shiny toys as a narcotic substitute.. We don't need all that as we have a much richer life which you guys destroyed during your cultural revolution.

More seriously, pursuit of material wealth made us humans develop and explore. I am sure monkeys are more contented with just hanging on the trees since they know no other alternatives. No offense intended. If we all just live happily in mud, well, we will live in mud for eternity.

In fact India is trying to adopt the Bangladesh model in many areas such as health, micro finance.... I wish you all the best.

Nearly 6% endogenous growth rate is good.

But the gap in India between poor and rich is huge, a sustainable growth cannot be achieved without a huge middle class.

Chinese middle class expected to reach one billion by 2030

China and India will become the powerhouses of middle class consumerism over the next two decades although other rapid-growth markets such as Mexico and Brazil will also contribute. Nevertheless, the Chinese and Indian contributions will be substantial. Today, China has around 150 million people who are considered to be part of the global middle class within the next decade this expected to have reached 500 million. By 2030 around one billion people in China could be middle class – as much as 70% of its projected population.

India’s global middle class, meanwhile, is much smaller at around 50 million people, or 5% of the population. EY estimates that this group will grow steadily over the next decade, reaching 200 million by 2020. After this, India’s middle class growth is really expected to accelerate, reaching 475 million people by 2030 and adding more than the Chinese to the global middle class worldwide after 2027.

Guys forget everything else, does india have enough sanitation for its people? Not for even half of it. That's shameful for a country like india.

I must say well done China. Bringing 1.3 billion out of famines and poverty to being the manufacturing hub is a big deal.

There is no point comparing India and China as of today.Sadly, even after having adequate resources our health and education sector suffer from utter misery due to lack of planning and incompetent effort from both the central and state Govt. After Independence India's primary concern was to take its huge population out of the sufferings, poverty and pain created by the British by agricultural and Industrial revolution.
Even after having substantial achievements in agriculture our Industrial sector has suffered blockades for several reasons which should have been curbed out by a strong and firm national policy with a long term vision.Luckily for the Chinese, they have handled the situation far better than the Indians.Their approach towards corruption and human development has yielded an enviable consequences with greater efficacy.
It will be wiser for us,Indians not to held any sense of jealousy or apathy towards the Chinese effort and its results.Instead, we can study their methods, its results both positive and negative with patience and then try to solve our own issues with a fresh way to deal with.
