China: The New Superpower?

Not really. Probably in 2020-2030 timeframe

So you are saying China won't be a super power but will do it in 2020-2030? How can both of those things be true?
@Viet
developing Vietnam is on the Vietnamese, unless I'm mistaken. China doesn't HAVE to put money in Vietnam, only if it's profitable. China isn't keeping Vietnam down, you are. Korea is next to China too and also destroyed in the war as is China. Though look at South Korea now.

And contain China? are you drunk? How? By using you military or Economic powers? Or perhaps your international influence? Or your democratic political system?
@OrionHunter
yea, most likely China wants Hegemony, but so what all powerful nations want it. Why should a nation that have the cash and the gun listen to a nation that doesn't.

China wants South China sea, China will get south China sea one way or another. Unless you strengthen yourself, you are just gonna have to watch and protest, not that that will do any good. Look at the Tibetans.

Oh and China only claims the seas, for now. The US fights wars and invades. That's what super powers do. You might need to rethink what being a super power means. It means having the bigger stick and the bigger piece of pie. Kind of why nations want to be super powers.

Super powers tend to grow not a bigger stick but a bigger dick! And people with bigger dicks always get screwed! Look at the US of A, and the Soviet Union. And this fate awaits the emerging Supah Powah China too! :P

Read history. For 1,000 years Vietnam had been the only country in SE Asia capable to challenge and stop China´s southwards expansion. Vietnam defeated ancient China, Siam, Laos, Khmer and Champa and successfully expanded to the size of Vietnam today.

Do you think we are not capable to do today?

Sure, you can trust the VN´s official GDP number and think it is correct. No problem. I am not saying Vietnam is rich, but it is not as poor as one thinks.

I just wonder how poor Vietnamese can affort to make overseas holiday trips? Last year 2012 sees 1.1 million to China, one million to Cambodia, 500,000 to Thailand, 300,000 to Singapore, 200,000 to Malaysia, 110,000 to South Korea. The figure does not take into account those who go to Europe and America.

Or where we get the money to send more than 106,000 Vietnamese to study abroad? or 40,000 Vietnamese patients for medical treatment abroad, including 10,000 to Singapore.

Why are you proud of sending Vietnamese patients for medical treatment abroad? Did you guys adopted Obamacare before we did?

Why are you guys not including EU? Its breaking away slowly but surely as an independent power away from US influence.

LOL I mentioned this just as some Vietnamese have money for best medical treatments in Singapore. VN´s medical system is less developed.

Why is everyone so enamoured of becoming a superpower?

China isn't and will not be a superpower in the way the US is,for China is NOT interested in becoming a world police the US is today!

You can dream of, but it is not realistic, unless you want to start a war.

China is no doubt the next superpower . US and India are both losing their places at the top.

Because EU itself is breaking :lol: UK, France and Germany cannot see each other. Citizens of bigger economies of EU are asking questions on why should their economies bear the wrongs of other smaller economies such as Greece?

Realistically though Chinese-Dragon, I think the world is heading in a bi-polar direction, with US and China as the two poles. It could have been more multi-polar, but the EU is simply not cohesive enough to act in one direction, and India is increasingly failing to live up to its "potential". Of course, it could still feel like the US is "primus inters pares", simply because they will always be a more interventionist, "world-police" type power than China will ever be.

One year of below 6% growth rate and you question India's potential? :what:

Unlike in the past when political parties in India used to fight for votes on castes and regions, now the new mantra is political parties are fighting on issues related to economy such as growth, Jobs etc...or at least have made these issue very important. The critical reception of the present Government is more based on the present bad situation of the economy than anything else.

For countries such as India or for that matter China growth is imperative or else the consequences will be really bad.
