China speaks better English than India, says study

It's amusing how Indians are sarcastically complaining about job loss, it appears true that in India many people have to learn English to get a job the national language Hindi isn't sufficient enough and their economy of call centers requires them to learn English. To them learning English is a sense of pride and honor. I'm glad they think like that.

our constitution gave english the honor of LINK language of India, so in that way yes it is good to learn english..... but believe me yaara no one uses english in our personal lives

I am from one of the regions you mentioned.... still i know very well hindi and I am proud of it

Of course, UP is one of the places that speak good Hindi, especially places close to Lucknow. Madhya Pradesh is also one of the states that speaks Shudh Hindi. However, speaking as a Bihari person who has family has Jharkhand as well, Bhojpuri is preferred by many Biharis over Hindi. Many Indians do not have Hindi as their first language, & those are the people that are poor at speaking Hindi, & in most cases, English as well.

Are you ashamed that you know English..or could not find a decent Urdu speaking job back home and moved to US ?

Most Indians (fresh off the boat/fobs) here in the US prefer using English with each other instead of Hindi, if they do not have a common mother language (if they belong to different Indian states). Such as Gujarati people talking to people from Maharashtra or anywhere else. No Indian takes pride in Hindi, which is really sad, & are ready to speak English with a poor accent than speak in their national language.

vocabulary could be better. but they would still be saying 'egg flied lice' instead of 'egg fried rice'!![/QUOTE
Chinese doesnt see english so much important like the indo and indo seems like they are very proud with it as their national pride and also indo always talk english with weird slang mixed with indian slang.Thats weird.

India has 27 different national languages and we are very proud our diversity unlike you..when ever people from a particular state talk ..they prefer to talk in their mother tongues..unless other wise in presence of company from different state, which is when they talk in English.(as it is considered impolite)

..Is Urdu the only mother tongue in Pakistan..you have no other national language in Pakistan?..How does a non Urdu speaking Baloch or Pakhtun talk to a Pakistani Punjabi in US?..or is it yet to happen?

China is ranked 29th, and India is 30th.
What's the big fuss about it?

By the way, here's a more comprehensive data that pertains to a much more competitive exam and includes a bigger population that took the exam. (Not a free internet test for those who WANT to learn English, rather those who learned it and test their skills at it)

..Is Urdu the only mother tongue in Pakistan..you have no other national language in Pakistan?..How does a non Urdu speaking Baloch or Pakhtun talk to a Pakistani Punjabi in US?..or is it yet to happen?

We are proud speaking in our mother tongues as well, but almost Pakistanis are very fluent in our national language as well, which holds great pride for us. For example: as a Bihari, I speak Bhojpuri with my parents & grandparents, & speak Urdu with the rest of the Pakistani people I know with great pride. Punjabis will speak in Punjabi with one another, Balochis will speak Balochi/Persian with each other, Pakhtuns will speak Paktho with each other, Sindhis will speak in Sindhi with one another, Gujaratis will speak in Gujarati with one another, people from Chitral speak in Chitrali with one another, as well as many other languages. Pakistan is very diverse as well in many ways my friend. However, when different ethnic groups speak to each other, we are fluent enough to communicate with each other in Urdu, & take great pride in using Urdu with one another. Urdu is a great source of pride for all of us, & almost all Pakistanis are very fluent at speaking it.

When Indians go to Western countries, they are divided amongst each other, in terms of Gujaratis, Maharashtrians, Punjabis, Southies etc. Every Pakistani calls themselves "Pakistanis" in the West, no one refers to themselves in terms of their ethnic groups. Indians belonging from different states have problems in communicating with one another if they are poor in both Hindi & English, & this is the case found with Indians that come from smaller cities in India.

@Bigoren

it's not the question of pride for indians to talk in english!! maybe you should do a bit of research before passing the judgement. We indians grow up with learning many languages.. not because it's a necessity.. but it's the part of our growing up. for some.. there is a language at home, then there is state language, then there is a language of the medium they study in, then there is a language of choice, like hindi, french or local!! most of the people tend to communicate in english with outsiders, but if you ask them howmany languages they know.. you might be surprised to hear the answer. every indian would know minimum of three languages!! most them will have command over five to six different languages.

Of all the TOEFL test takers... you bet they do!!!

It is about the level of merit in respective countries. An American scoring 700 in GMAT is considered in the same intellectual strata in his country as an Indian scoring 750 in the same test in his country. Go figure.
