In a move that is set to strain diplomatic ties between the two Asian giants, China has once again issued stapled visas to a group of Indian sportspersons.

Three karatekas and an official from India’s north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh were issued stapled visas by the Chinese Embassy in Delhi preventing them from travelling to China to take part in the 11th Asian Karate-do Championship (Junior and Cadet) being held in Quanghou City, Fujian province of China from July 20 to 25.

Indian authorities at New Delhi's IGI airport had to turn them away following a directive from India’s home ministry that renders stapled visas given to residents of Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir by Chinese embassy as illegitimate.

Describing the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as disputed territories, China has abstained from issuing regular visas, as a matter of foreign policy, to people hailing from the region. China’s territorial claim over Arunachal Pradesh, which China dubs as South Tibet, has remained a serious bone of contention between India and China since the two nations first shared a common border following China’s occupation of Tibet in 1959.

Labelling China’s latest action as “inexplicable” and an “insulting practice” Arunachal Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin asked the Centre for a clear policy stand, demanding a strong protest over the ‘violation of Arunachalees’ right to express their citizenship”.

Law makers from Arunachal expressed anguish over the visa row with Lok Sabha member from Arunachal West constituency Takam Sanjoy promising to raise the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

"Already, China's objection at the international level has stopped World Bank funding of projects in our state. While others states are enjoying ADB benefits, the same has been denied to Arunachal because of China's objection," Sanjoy told reporters.

Rajya Sabha member from the state, Mukut Mithi, demanded that the Centre should prohibit all Indians from visiting China.

The longstanding stapled visa row took an ugly turn last year when India suspended defence exchanges with China after the communist nation refused to issue a visa to a top Indian military official posted in Jammu and Kashmir citing the territory as disputed.

Defence ties resumed only last month, after Indian officials said China had appeared to rescind the policy. But this latest incidence raises serious doubts over Delhi’s decision. Furthermore, Chinese official sources were quoted by reporters on Thursday as saying that the policy of issuing stapled visas to “all disputed regions” remained consistent and unchanged.

China had assured us that it will solve this stapled visa issue. Now again this.

Typical of the Chinese.

As the Americans say - speaking from both end of the cheek.

As the Native Americans say - speak with a forked tongue.

India should not get too perturbed. It really does not matter if one does not participate in Chinese sponsored events.

One has to understand one cannot change the traits of any country and one should not even try. It is usually a waste of time. Time is precious and so why waste time.

There are many other world events and India should prove their mettle there.

Time for India to realize the CHinese are playing just stalling till thy have acquired a better position to bully us based on various factors, such economic, miiitary, geo political distrubances, alliances, etc. They are probing us thru multiple efforts, trying to see where we can be squeezed. The only way a democratic country can survive this onslaught of Communist CHina is change tactics that normally would not be present in our type of government. Time to creat an unit or panel led by a "brain." This has been applied ot the defence sector in the US, but never has it been applied to the US in government terms. The "Brain" and panel would oversee multiple issues with regard to trade, defence, education, and economics. In the states, the issue would be we are creating another inefficient government agency with a budget that ppl cannot afford. But the truth is we need to operate like the CHinese in a democratic environment. The brain would oversee that any new tech development or discovery in general is forwarded to the respective agency or even corporations where knowledge could possibly be built upon. I know we live in a capitalistic society but we need to change tactics to evolving threats to our interests. Sometimes, I feel the American ppl have laready thrown the towel in and have conceded they cannot compete with the Chinese but that is so far off. We need to direct our companies, corporations, educational institutions, research facilities, deence academies to the up and coming developments so that we don;t fall behind. Back to China, if we go the route of stopping any activity with China then before we ever thaw relations again, more concrete and verifiable evidence needs to point out that the Chinese are acting, not merely talking.

just one defence deal with japan and the chinese premier will come running to india , and term india as an old friend with which china shares cultural ties , the problem is that we have a weak government in power which will never take any action at these chinese acts and the chinese know this very well .

something similiar to the nuclear deal we were going to have with japan , or any small defence cooperation like having a joint naval excercise in south china sea will be enough to stop these chinese actions.

And what this stapled Visas will do?? Will they make any difference to current border line? Or any kind of threat to India? I wonder why Chinese govt is behaving like a kid who promise to do homework on time everyday...:cheesy:
Seriously, now i don't take this news seriously....:pop:
