actually,it is a good news to j10x in the future .bcz there are another choice but to chinese ws10x.
So, see not hard。china was cautious about turbofan in the future. double secure affirmance is good decision。

Salut reports its AL31F-M2 turbofan is ready, thrust up from 12.5 tons for the basic version to 14.5 tons for the M2 version.

Just a while ago. There is the order from CAC for 123 units of AL31FN made by Salut.

Several years ago, reported in its " Super-10 " article that Salut developed AL31-M series for future J10.

It highlights close relation between CAC & Salut & CAC does value its long term partner.

Not diminished. Overshadowed. The importance of engines remains the same in magnitude, but the importance of avionics and weapons systems have risen beyond it.

The problem is all photos of J-10B so far are equipped with AL-31FN, even though we have already seen J-20 fly with domestic engines!

I think China ordered the 123 engines for the J-10B because the B-version is supposed to be mass produced this year. At the same time as mass production, Chengdu will soon be testing the J-10B with FWS10A. Also, it looks like the same situation in radars -- the J-10B looks like it will enter into service this year with PESA radar, and upgrade to AESA later.

Very likely, J-10B will be flying with domestic engines by 2013-2014 and J-20 will be flying with domestic engines by 2016-2018.

All we need right now is proof (photo of J-10B testing with domestic engines)!

PESA? All of the senior members of SDF, Huitong, senior PAF officials, all claim that the J-10B will be using a X-band AESA from the Nanjing Institute.

In fact, the JF-17 Block II is believed to be equipped with a variant of the AESA radar installed on the J-10B.

In the past, engine was supreme as most of the fighting was pure dogfighting. With the advent of BVR, the importance of avionics and the missiles on an aircraft are prime.

All that China requires is a sufficiently reliable engine for the J-20 that will provide a high enough thrust(160KN+). It's lifespan and less reliability than say the F-119 in the F-22 will matter little in the performance capability of the J-20 fighter.

Modern day air to air combat involve flying towards the enemy, shooting the BVRAAM, and turning back. We are past the age of turning dogfights.

I see, these engines are for the J-10A.

There have been a large amount of J-10A in server since 2005, so their old AL-31FN needed a replacement!
