The issue is if an object or person has any emotional significance to a people. Muhammad is emotionally significant to Muslims. The US flag is emotionally significant to Americans. You want to get violent if we draw Muhammad ? Then we can get violent if you burn our flag. Of course, we are more mature than you about such things so we would not get violent if you burn our flag.

We can exercise self control. You cannot.

Self control is usually a sign of strength and maturity. Expecting that out of unemployed, frustrated youth who have no future to look forward to is a vain hope. Please believe me when I say that it gives me no joy to say this, but given the political and economic circumstances of most Islamic states (dictatorships dependent on natural resources), most young men have little to hope for in life. Polygamy worsens the problem by locking out young men from having meaningful relations with women even as rich/powerful marry again and again. The attack on Charlie Hebdo is a manifestation of this frustration. It is a terrible thing to say, but that is what it seems to be. ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda and these killers in Paris seem to be a result of oversupply of single young men with few prospects in life. I hope these societies can come out of this stronger.
