The U.S. doesn’t track “femicide” specifically, because we tend to call these murders “homicides” or “female homicides.” And while there is a lot of research on fatal domestic violence, (64% of murdered women in 2007 were killed by a current or former partner, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics) the data is not usually presented in the broader context of women being killed by men. One exception is the gun-control advocacy nonprofit Violence
-–
they estimate that 1,706 American women were killed by men in 2012, whether in domestic disputes or not (although victims were 13 times more likely to be killed by a male they knew).
Estimately over
18.000 women were killed by men since 2003 in the U.S.''
''Ingala Smith, who began a grim and time-consuming task of counting Britain’s murdered women and putting their names on her own blog
back in 2012. There were 126 women killed through male violence that year, 143 in 2013 and 150 in 2014.''
''Karen Ingala Smith, chief executive of British anti-violence organization nia, has been keeping track of all women killed by men (all men–not just current or former partners). On her blog, Counting Dead Women, she’s tallied up 126 women killed by men in 2012, 144 in 2013, and 148 in 2014. Smith is just one woman counting up news reports of dead women in her spare time,
but she’s the closest thing the U.K. has to an official count of women killed by men.''
''
In Italy, between 2006 and 2009, the number of women killed at the hands of men amounted to 439. In the majority of the cases the guilty were members of the family: husbands (36% of the cases), partners (18%), relatives (13%) or ex-husbands, partners and so on (9%).''
''The number of women murdered in Brazil rose by 230 percent from 1980 to 2010, government figures show.
An average of 4,500 women are killed in the country every year, Nadine Gasman, head of the agency United Nations Women in Brazil.''
'
'In 3 generations, about 50 million women have been systematically annihilated from India’s population, targeted only because they were female.
It has been estimated that at least
106.000 women are burnt to death every year. The thousands who don’t die, live-on badly burnt and maimed, their lives destroyed.
This genocide is occurring across all sections of society in India, among the illiterate and the educated, among the poor, the middle-class and the wealthy.
In India there is no correlation between female genocide and education, economics, culture and religion. It the result not of poverty or ignorance, but of extensive and aggressive lawlessness, due to the apathy of the country’s system of law and order.''
