What's new

Cabinet Committee on security quietly clears the sale of 42 additional SU-30 MKI

will the later birds be any diffeent in terms of technology, radar, avionics, cockip intstuments in comparison to any earlier MKIs in IAF service? in short any differences whatsoever to newer MKIs?

Yes..these will have
new engine with more thrust (most probably S-117 )

BARS AESA radar
Improved avionics

and ability to carry BRAHMOS and NIRBHAY..

well its good but i think we need more to counter our enemy we are looking the coming plane but no one is taking about how we are losing planes and we are still lacking behind in sq number

our country is growing but our force is still at old level rate

we need a strong advance and effective force for our nation

I dont think so...

450 aircrafts are retiring including mig21 jaguar and mig 27

200 LCAs + 250 PakFa+ remaining 150 MKIs, and 126 MRCA = 726 + the now cleared 42 MKIs therefore we will have 768 new inductions.

I am not calculating the choppers..the no. of new choppers in different categories will of course be much higher than the retiring numbers.

.
hope we time the decommissioning and induction properly so that force levels are not compromised

have you seen the condition of mig21 jaguar mig 27 they are not up to level as we need for our IAF

and as you talking about 768 planes induction do you know the time frame ....................................

i hope you know how china and Pakistan are increasing there power

yes..and exactly why they are being replaced...

yes..we will have a low numbers till around 2015-16..but we arent in hurry...will soon start recovering from there on..I am sure your concern of less numbers is in the minds of IAF officials.

i hope you know how china and Pakistan are increasing there power

yups..I do know and thats why I am not worried...as i said ..we are not going in a war any time soon...in the end of acquring weapons of Pakistan, China and India..I am sure India will dominate the region..so relax.

Its quite puzzling to me right now, As far as I understand SU 35BM is being offered at 65 M$ and our MKI will be costing 12m$ more. So can we believe that it will be more potent than SU 35BM in terms of RCS, RADAR etc? any thoughts:cheers:

su35 BM

Su-35BM's avionics received significant improvements, but they are also entirely of Russian origin. The Su-35BM is equipped with an improved passive electronically scanned array N035 Irbis radar system, as well as additional rear mounted radar in its shortened tail sting, later production will use IRBIS-E Radar an Improved N035 with higher peak power and better ECM characteristic. An L175M Khibiny-M self-defense electronic countermeasures and electronic warfare system has also been installed, future production will include the new Irbis-E Radar with more powerful search ability.

The cockpit has been redesigned with two LCD screens and compatibility with helmet-mounted displays. The Su-35BM's software has added compatibility with new weapons systems. Other new avionics include a long-range information targeting and jam-resistant datalink capability and an electronic reconnaissance system. Newer, lighter systems have been added (including a brand new FBO (Fly by Optics) flight-control system and OLS). The avionics are integrated with the GLONASS radio-based satellite navigation system.

Sukhoi considers it to be 4++ generation,[1] but one expert suggests that with the totality of characteristics it satisfies the requirements for a 5th generation fighter, like the F-22 Raptor.[6]

well dear no one can say when will war take place but as an country we should be ready all time

our force should be the most powerful advance and best

Its not a bad idea to buy 40 Rafael's and may be another 60 with some reserve aircraft(like 10 of these) in fututre. Coz Rafael has some thing to give to the IAFs fleet mordernization and to contribute in the expantion of fleet. Rafael is also a very high tech bird with capability to do OMNI ROLE . Can any senior member could explain wats OMNI ROLE?

.
But these enhancements as far as I understand do not add upto 37 M$ (Difference 77$ - 40 M $ Current)
There should be something more to the deal Any thoughts
That's the cost of setting up the production facilities, gaining experience, paying royalty to the Russians etc etc. you can read about it here: fighterplanes.tk
Some reports say that HAL manufactured fighter is cheaper, but CAG nailed that lie. The cost of setting up the facilities were hugely underestimated and the final cost came to about ~70 million.

F-15 silent eagle does not have an internal weapons bay. Well, it has, but it's not part of the fighter. All they did was modify the conformal fuel tanks to carry weapons inside it. Nothing ground breaking. It can either carry conformal fuel tanks or the internal weapons bay addon, not both.

agreed my friend, but even during the temporary dip, we are ready enough to counter any attack....

yes, our forces should be the most powerful and thats what we are working on..we are replacing older fleet with the most adavnce weaposn and thus the tempory dip.

domain-b.com : IAF orders 42 'Super-30' Sukhoi fighters for Rs15,000 crore

IAF orders 42 'Super-30' Sukhoi fighters for Rs15,000 crore

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force is all set to further boost its fleet of top-of-the-line Sukhoi-30MKI fighters with additional orders for 42 'Super-30' variants such aircraft. Reports suggest that the Cabinet Committee on Security may have sanctioned this fresh purchase sometime early this month.

The order is expected to be for the 'Super' variant of the Su-30MKI, which would be capable of carrying the BrahMos cruise missile. The Super variants are also expected to carry the under-development, nuclear-capable, Nirbhay cruise missile with a range of 1,000 km.

The 'Super' variants are expected to field new radars, onboard computers, electronic warfare systems as well as the supersonic BrahMos and the high sub-sonic, strategic Nirbhay missile.

The first two prototypes of the 'Super-30' upgrade are expected to be delivered to the Indian Air Force in 2012, after which the same upgrades will be performed on the last batch consisting of 40 production aircraft.

The fresh order for 42 such aircraft would take the total number of these fighters in the Indian Air Force inventory to 272, making it the single largest type of fighters with the IAF when all deliveries are finally completed by 2018.

The Su-30MKI is the most advanced model amongst the various variants of the Su-30 platform, which includes the Su-30MKK flown by the Chinese air force and a few other nations around the world.

The air forces of advanced nations, such as the US, the UK and France, have made it a point to seek joint exercises with the Indian Air Force just so they could test their own top-of-the-line equipment and pilot skills against this platform, which is universally acknowledged as a formidable force multiplier.

The fresh order for these 42 aircraft will cost the Indian Air Force atleast Rs15,000 crore.

Deliveries of all 272 aircraft, including the fresh order, are expected to be completed by 2018.

HAL is expected to commence manufacture of this lot of 42 aircraft sometime in 2014.

Orders for the Su-30MKI have been placed in four tranches, with the original order for 50 fighters placed in 1996. The second tranche of orders for 140 fighters was placed in 2000, which was followed up with a third tranche of orders for an additional 40 aircraft.

Reports suggest that HAL is expected to complete all deliveries of the Su-30MKI by 2016-17.

HAL has made steady progress in stepping up production of the Su-30MKI at its facilities and is set to deliver 28 of these fighters this year as compared to 23 last year. It has already delivered a total of 74 of such aircraft through assembly or manufacture.

.
While serching 4 super-30 it came out to be nickname 4 su-35,47
i.e. 42-mki will have all avionics upgrade to su-35 level.

.
Does anybody have a reliable source, about how much we payed for the 40 MKIs deal in 2007? Also if I'm not wrong their deliveri should start this year, any recent news about them?
