Clearly the article is referring to the fact that the border is not properly demarcated at the site and that both countries are conducting a survey in the disputed area. There must have been some communication gap between the surveyors from both sides.

Another article from Dhaka Mirror says that the BSF withdrew within an hour.

BDR on red alert

Aug 11: Indian BSF troops today suddenly massed in and occupied a vast tract of Bangladesh land on Pratpur frontier in Goainghat upazila, triggering tensions among people in the border area as they recalled a 2001 clash between the two forces.

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) sources said the trespassing Indian border guards retreated in the face of strong position taken by the BDR jawans.

According to BDR and local sources, a group of 70-80 BSF members of Padua camp moved 300 meters into the Bangladesh territory at about 12 noon and entrenched their armed positions hoisting red flag.
The Indian side claimed the ownership of 500 acres of land close to border pillars no 1270, 1271, 1272, 1273, said Pratapur BDR outpost commander Naik Subedar Joynul Ahmed.

“BDR personnel staged instant protest, hoisted red flag and asked the BSF intruders to quit the land. But, the intruding BSF declined to leave the area. Consequently, BDR issued red alert hoisting the red flag,” says a report from the area.

People living in the frontier area said the BSF built up its strength after forcibly occupying the land. This created panic among the frontier people.

BDR 21 Battalion Commander Lt Col Zahirul Alam said, “The BSF men had to retreat at about 1pm in the wake of tough position taken by the BDR and strong protests.”

Director General of BDR Maj General Mainul Islam told the news agency that there have been some adverse possessions of land in India and Bangladesh since the Pakistan times. “Our position is to maintain our previous respective positions and the joint border working group will settle the matter,” he said.

A BDR-BSF skirmish was triggered by such possession of land in the same area by the Indian Border Security Force members in 2001, at the fag-end of the previous Awami League government’s rule. In a chain action, a brief encounter occurred on the northern Burimari frontier in Lamonirhat district.

It is good to know the BSF has withdrawn after one hour. But, BSF should avoid adventurism and stop intruding and then grabbing our land. Our BDR is strong-willed, but our pajama-clad politicians are not. But, a day will again come when BDR will repulse with force if the situation becomes untenable for them. Showing red eyes by a big India will not dissuade them from protecting our border.

India and BD has good relation and BD is capable of protecting their nation.

So let people of BD to decide whether India is graving land or not because they elected her to the PM not you. If India wanted to grab land than it could easy do it in 1971 when Indian forces in Dhaka and after that in last 39 years. Such incidents on border happens and I think we are reading one sided news.

The people of Bangladesh are reporting the grabbing of their land by bhartis.

Its the people of Bangladesh who are reporting killing of their countrymen by Indian BSF.


IF India wanted??? you tried to your level best to make BD your Indian colony you were under perception that BD will be another bhutan for you but unfortunately BD had kept its identity separate from mixing with bharat.

Indian forces have done much loot and plunder in parts of BD taking advantage of the fighting. BD members can tell you this.

The same BD members who speak about such things are called traitors by Indians though you have NO right to say so.

And BTW incidents on borders are taken for discussion just like all other issues why Indians become feeling insecure and jump the threads with off topic things to get it closed?

If your relations are soooooo good then dont need to get insecure.

Indian BSF should be taught a lesson like in 2001 when around 200 BSF were killed as they intruded into BD territory. BDR should protest and retaliate against this illegal occupation.

why the indian border troops had to take control of the land during the time of joint survey ? if they really had any chance of getting any portion of that land they could take it later .in the month of victory day indian action prove how vulrable our liberation is and the small peace loving country like us can not ignore our defence anymore when there is shark around . every bangladeshi should raise against this .

Suppose there is no other political party in BD and everyone in BD only supports AL. I think, then no one will protest against India (against BSF's killing, capturing BD's lands, looting, stealing water, free transit and so on) because every AL supporter is submissive to India. With whom you will protest against India when you see BSF is killing BD's people and India is harming BD? And then after some years people like you who love BD so much will only have to cry because you will not find anyone to talk against India but only AL stooges all over BD!!!!!!!

So sometimes I think, everyone and every party should stop speaking against AL and India, I want to see how long BD can run peacefully!

That time was at the closing moment of awami league govt most probably thats why they didn't do any think serious but this time how they will retaliate would be a considering factor how bangladesh tackle this situation .

We don't have Chinese pouring into NE,and causing changes in the demographics.

Intrusions is very rare,considering the border is all mountainous area.

We don't have NE militants taking shelter in China.

I don't of course advocate BSF to kill civilians and those guilty must be brought to justice.
But this won't happen without Indo-Bangladesh cooperation.
