BREAKING Two police officers and passer-by shot dead and woman taken hostage in Liege, Belgium

Even with the most vigorous of training regimens, a team of police officers checking meters is the least likely of all to expect a sudden, abrupt violent attack. Or perhaps the perp incapacitated them both before they had a chance to properly react.

You don't understand what I mean.

The person cannot stab both police officer at the same time. And depending on the beat detail, it should be set that both police officer cannot be attacked at the same time, if the beat is for 2 officers to check the meter in an area together, the two officer will be checking the meters on the different side of the street (one will be on one side of the street, and the other will be on the other side) and if there are only 1 side of the street, then one will start from the beginning of the street, one will start at the end.

So if one of the officer is in trouble, the other one can intervene.

But from what I can gather, both were stab first, and then have their weapons stolen, and shot dead with their weapon means both went down pretty much the same time, which translated to their position was not what we called "Mutually supporting each other" which would suggest a procedural error, or a human error, or both. Because the reason why there is a two men beats is so that this can never happen.

Bear in mind the police would be accountable for the third victim (the teaching student) because the third victim is shot with a police issued weapon. And ultimately it's the police force responsibility to have officers accountable for their actions and accountable for their weapon. In a Police Academy, the first thing you were taught is the responsibility to bear weapon, because it may help you in some situation and if you are using it wrong, it will work against you.

RIP to all the victims..

One thing I don't get tho. The policewomen was stabbed and then have their weapon stolen then shot dead with their own weapon. The information I am getting is the women were partners, and was checking meters together. Why would the prep be able to stab both officers and stole their weapons? Wasn't the purpose of 2 men beat is to exactly work to prevent this from happening to begin with?

I have no disrespect with the Belgium police or the deceased officers, I just don't get it. Noted that I teach policing in Australia now and US before, so this is a professional question.

Policewomen.

On-Topic: Belgium should do more against this scourge of terrorism. Extremely unfortunate that the innocents lost their lives in this manner in such manner.

It was confusing to me too, until the news came it were 2 older women. I mean no disrespect to our female friends but I think if it were 2 men, I don't think it would have happened. One of the women was part-time too. They were supposed to check parking meters or something like that, so they were caught completely by surprise and it probably happened faster than you'd think, sadly enough...

Men or Women should gone thru the same Weapon Qualification training with the Police Force before they are qualify to bear arms in public, which mean it's no excuse for the terrorist to be able to steal their weapon and use it on civilian. Weapon safety is very important for Police Force, especially non-military trained Police, I myself teaches Weapon and Tactical movement to police force in the US (Not just SWAT), there are some basic principle a police officer can follow to prevent their own weapon from turning on them. I don't know what Belgium Police teaches to their officer, nor what kind of Weapon Policy Belgium have. But blaming women, or older women in that case for not be able to secure their firearms would mean they now just become a prime target for terrorist. If this is their own short coming (old or being a women), then they should never allowed to bear weapon in the first place. This weapon handling problem is quite rampant within NSW police force as well. I think that is a big issue don't you think? Because that mean terrorist or criminal can just target older policewomen for their weapon?

Another point still missing is that regardless of weapon training, the implementation of 2 men beats should be able to prevent this (weapon stealing) to happen from the beginning. Police were taught how to support each other in a 2 men beats and they were never close enough to have a single attacker to attack or take down both officer at the same time. You don't walk side by side if you are on a street beat, you keep your distant with your partner, so it is strange for a single prep be able to subdue two police officer like that (Without Firearms involve in the initial stage) is unheard of. It would make sense if there are 2 preps going for both officer at the same time, but this looks like not the case. So for both to go down at the same time without any one of the pair can intervene would mean either the beat design is flawed (ie bunching 2 officer together) or the officers broke protocol...

Thank goodness for that. Glad it wasn't a Pakistani.

Nonetheless, he needs to be executed. EU's no-kill Batman style policy is not going to do anything except drain precious resources on people who are not worthy to live.
