BREAKING: Pentagon says U.S. hit two Syrian facilities in 'self-defense strikes'

Ok, now this is escalation. I don't recall any attack against US servicemen recently, so these are clearly designed to aid Israel, by preventing Iranians from interfering from the Syrian side, while Israel is busy in Gaza. The language, 'self defence strikes' sounds very nervous, as US wishes to 'wash off' any connection to Israel.

Looks like payback.
in retaliation for a slew of drone and missile attacks against U.S. bases and personnel in the region that began early last week.

They already are calling US's bluff to join the war on behalf of the terrorist organization of Israel:

..
..

Syria: Al-Mayadeen correspondent: Rocket bombardment targets the American base in the Al-Omar oil field northeast of Deir ez-Zor, east of the country.

..
..

Syria: Al-Mayadeen sources: The base was targeted with 6 missiles launched from the desert between the cities of Al-Mayadeen and Al-Bukamal.

Europe and South China Sea are much more critical to the US. If the terrorist organization of Israel faces a real threat of collapse, it's unlikely the US will come rescue it.

Syria Iran are weak

Real strength lies in saudis eygptians and Chinese

What do they bring to the table

Eygpt is handled via elsisi and Saudis are pretty much under the thumb

If an attack is not countered, it will only invite more attacks. It is likely that there may not be attacks anymore.

What is Usa doing in Syria? Why do they have their army in foreign nations without permission. In reality Usa is occupying Syria.

-Illegally occupies part of Syria
-Self-defence

US is in Syria, Russia is in Syria, Turkey too is in Syria. All are trying to increase their influence by supporting their allies.

Things likely to escalate now. When that ground invasion starts I can see a number of US bases being hit.

Russia is in Syria with the permission of the Syrian government. Usa and Turkey are occupying Syrian territory.
But is the Syrian govt legitimate? When you have a civil war and two sides the current govt is no longer the sovereign. Unless Assad's govt fully crushes the rebel forces there are two parties none of them legitimate. External forces will always benefit from such a scenario.

Ofcourse it is. The rebel forces ie terrorists were given support by the West and gulf arab states to destroy Syria, the Syrian government fought back and retook the majority of the areas. But this ended up with Syria being destroyed and becoming a weak state. I agree with your point, if your a weak state then external forces will take advantage. If syria was a strong powerful state then their would be no rebellion.

Expect harder and more precise hits with more lethal outcomes from iran, those previous attacks were "gentle" and message

Unfortunetely in eyes of international law it is like israel is, so in order to be consistant you have to say that regardless criminal and heinous nature of regime and mass murders against its own citizens.
