RIP to the dead. I've heard news that there's blast in Pakistan too. Too bad a day.

New Delhi, Sep.7 (ANI): Major metros of India have been placed on a state of high alert after Wednesday morning's explosion outside gate number five of the Delhi High Court.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of senior Home Ministry and police officials. The emergency meeting was chaired by Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh.

Thirteen members of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the bomb squad are at the blast site collecting evidence as to what caused the explosion at around 10. 15 a.m. this morning.

At the time of the filing of this report, the death toll was pegged at nine, while the injury toll was around 50.

Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram is expected to give a detailed statement in parliament on the explosion in a short while from now, even as the entire court complex has been sanitized by the police and other investigating agencies.

The death and injury toll was confirmed by U.K.Bansal, Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He also said that the blast was a medium to high intensity one.

Earlier, senior police officials and eyewitnesses said the explosion took place at around 10.15 a.m. this morning. They added that the injured have been taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Jayprakash Narayan Hospital for treatment.

Three CAT ambulances and several fire engines have arrived at the blast site.

Top Delhi Police officials, including Police Commissioner B.K.Gupta are at the spot. They are in touch with Home Ministry officials, media reports said. The Home Ministry is also assessing the situation, the reports added.

Gate number five is the main gate of the Delhi High Court from where most lawyers and litigants enter.

Police described the blast as a high intensity one. (ANI)

Another blast.......these blasts are now becoming frequent . I know that we have tightened our security a lot in da past 2 years but is that enough ?? We really need to work upon our security systems . That is the only possible way to minimize terrorist activities in our country...Another blast.......these blasts are now becoming frequent . Very very sad incident. Delhi HC was targeted recently but failed now the terrorists have succeeded. What IB and the govt doing?

The common masses in Pakistan do not support terrorism either. What you are seeing are the effects of the WOT in Afghanistan spilling over to other countries: it is affecting the whole region very badly, including Pakistan, China, even India & Russia.

Terrorists attacks and bomb blasts in Pakistan and Afghanistan cannot be compared with those China, India and Russia.

Of course they can't, two of those countries are directly involved in the WOT, while India has zero involvement in it. However, there will be spillover effects of this war into India, China & other countries as well; & the entire region is becoming more unstable with time. Just like there was no real concept of suicide bombing in Pakistan prior to 2006 either, & hardly any bombings either: they were thought to be 'tools' used in the Middle East.

Isn't this ironic, if bombs go off in Pakistan, accusations fly that it's our own making......

Something happens elsewhere.......it's allegedly others fault...... what to say of some introspection.

Anyways RIP the deceased.

just a slight extension to this - i notice on bbc that the indian bombing takes the main headline in world news, the pakistani bomb blasts are lower down, its a sad state of affairs for pakistan when bombgins in its nation are not seen as being as newsworthy as other places, an unquestioning acceptance that its part of everyday life, RIP to peace.
