Bitter lessons of Thailand to buy Chinese warships

Stop writing stories.. Lets talk point to point..
a) The article says "Thailand planning to buy Western equipment because it is disappointed by chinese product". Please read it.
b) Early retirement: when a country buy one product (Defense equipment) they plan its retirement age. Usually product last more than planned retirement age, only rich country replace there product before retirement. In this case chinese product didn't last long enough to serve them.
c) Chinese Ships are better now: Who cares, They have been cheated once, they don't want to be cheated again (if there wallet allow). Or they will go for tough negotiation this time. (may pay half what one frigate cost, assuming that the chinese frigate may last for half of time expected)... :P
:omghaha:we all live in bungalow in 1991,but now, kid, dont in dream:rofl:

First of all, they were disappointed with the first two delivered in early 90s. They complained, we fixed it and they ordered 2 more and now they have 4. If they were soooo disappointed, then they should have ran the other way with the first two and not order 2 more.

I will admit those ships can't last very long, China started to build advanced war ships in the 50s or 60s, delayed in the 60s and 70s with cultural revolution. Got back again with very limited funds in the late 70s and early 80s.

Does that sound like a lot of experience?

Would you laugh at a baby for falling while learning to walk?

They haven't been cheated, we just weren't good enough then, but we have since sold many ships to many countries that have given positive feed backs.

In fact, if we are so bad now, you know who made Thailand's Pattani class. Based on OUR type 56 corvette in the 2000s.

Also, in case you don't know Thailand is also negotiating for order of 3 type 54A.

Defense Updates: Thailand to negotiate purchase of 3 Chinese Type 054A class frigates

So your running for western equipment is baseless.

These are info are available to anyone. You like to ignore facts so much that you would base your entire argument on one article that's from anti Chinese website, and by the looks of it has the objectiveness of a White supremacist.

It's also been google translated. So who's writing stories here....

A nation with limited resources (since poor nation is bad term) tend to buy inferior products.. I am not saying anything, the article does. The Article says

a) The Quality was awful
b) The Product are forced to retire early coz of its quality issue.

I don't have to say anything else.. I assume the report is correct... If this report is incorrect (conspiracy theory) then we should close the discussion..

How does it matter? privates closing is a better indicator of your heading compared to state owned one's who are immune to everything and can be bailed out if required.

We didnt have a proper naval force with big warship in 1988

The Battle of the Paracel Islands was a military engagement between the naval forces of the People's Republic of China and Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) in Paracel Islands on January 19, 1974. The battle was an escalation of the Republic of Vietnam Navy's efforts to expel Chinese fishing vessels from the vicinity of some of the Paracels.

During the course of the battle, the People's Liberation Army Navy established permanent control over the Crescent Group of the Paracel Islands. Although this result was not part of China's original military objectives, it completed China's control over the Paracels.

Balance of forces

There were four warships from the South Vietnam participated in the battle: three frigates, Trần Bình Trọng (HQ-5),[1] Lý Thường Kiệt (HQ-16),[2] and Trần Khánh Dư (HQ-4), [3], and one corvette, Nhật Tảo (HQ-10).[4] In addition, a platoon of South Vietnamese naval commandos, an underwater demolition team, and a regular ARVN platoon were stationed on the islands.

China had four warships for most parts of the battle: PLAN corvettes # 271, #274, # 389 and # 396; they were very old and small warships with length of 49 meters and width of 6 meters, and had not been well-maintained for years. This force was reinforced by two Kronstad-Class submarine chasers (# 281 and # 282) at the end of the battle. In addition, two PLA marine battalions and an unknown number of irregular militia landed on the islands.

In comparison, the total displacements and weapons of Vietnamese were remarkably more than those of China. There were four ships of each side engaging in the battle. The supporting and reinforcement forces of China’s PLAN did not actually take part during the battle.

The battle went lost due to incompetence of the South Vietnamese Navy :hitwall:

I read before that at the battle of Hoang Sa the small Chinese ships were able to close the distance with the larger and better armed Vietnamese ships and threw grenades onto the deck of the Vietnamese ship. The article also mentioned how the armour piercing rounds on the Vietnamese ships main guns did very little damage and passed right through the Chinese ships.
I dont know how true it is though.

You dont get it do you?

see the post I was replying to - the poster was talking about huge pending orders and all ports being busy manufacturing and exporting - replied back saying that if it is so then why are 1/3rd of your ship building ports lined up for closure.

As the MNC examples you cited ....are your ports MNC's?

most ship yards of world are hard to support,Korean Daewoo sell 165,000 tons 18,000 TEU container ships only $140 Millions in 2013,but same ship worth $185 Millions in 2011.

A type 056 about $100 Millions/per ship,40 in building,10+ Destroyers,10+ Frigates,at least 2 CV ,helicopter carriers,Tenders,100 Coast Guard ships. :azn:
