b) Early retirement: when a country buy one product (Defense equipment) they plan its retirement age. Usually product last more than planned retirement age, only rich country replace there product before retirement. In this case chinese product didn't last long enough to serve them.
c) Chinese Ships are better now: Who cares, They have been cheated once, they don't want to be cheated again (if there wallet allow). Or they will go for tough negotiation this time. (may pay half what one frigate cost, assuming that the chinese frigate may last for half of time expected)...

First of all, they were disappointed with the first two delivered in early 90s. They complained, we fixed it and they ordered 2 more and now they have 4. If they were soooo disappointed, then they should have ran the other way with the first two and not order 2 more.

I will admit those ships can't last very long, China started to build advanced war ships in the 50s or 60s, delayed in the 60s and 70s with cultural revolution. Got back again with very limited funds in the late 70s and early 80s.

Does that sound like a lot of experience?

They haven't been cheated, we just weren't good enough then, but we have since sold many ships to many countries that have given positive feed backs.

I read before that at the battle of Hoang Sa the small Chinese ships were able to close the distance with the larger and better armed Vietnamese ships and threw grenades onto the deck of the Vietnamese ship. The article also mentioned how the armour piercing rounds on the Vietnamese ships main guns did very little damage and passed right through the Chinese ships.
I dont know how true it is though.

most ship yards of world are hard to support,Korean Daewoo sell 165,000 tons 18,000 TEU container ships only $140 Millions in 2013,but same ship worth $185 Millions in 2011.

A type 056 about $100 Millions/per ship,40 in building,10+ Destroyers,10+ Frigates,at least 2 CV ,helicopter carriers,Tenders，100 Coast Guard ships.
