What's new

Bangladesh will buy 5 warships from Britain.

these might be type-23 frigates being phase out from RN .

. .
Interesting news.

BN is putting BAF to shame.

Also, happy to see the overall path Bangladesh is taking.

Now can we please get some MRCA??

. . . .
Bangladesh hates Burma...
China is friendly to Burma and China Bengal relationship is neutral at best

Both Myanmar and Bangladesh are allies of China and both are supporting China to kick India out of Bay of Bengal.
Bangladesh is actually buying these warships to deploy against Burma..... This is not against India.....

LOL You Hindus are truly delusional which is good.

.
Ok, so I guess it will be the Type-31 in this case bearing in mind the Type-26 frigate comes in at over 1 billion US dollars each.

If there is not the extended range version of sea-captor sam available (40km range) then this would be a disaster with only the standard 25km range SAM installed.

Would really have preferred the Turkish option but let us wait and see what the actual specs are as they may be better than the UK version.

.
So this is where the 5 "indigenous" frigate plan is going??

I hope no one will claim that BD is buying Type 26s.

.
And this is how it starts.

a. Bangladesh ears FOREX
b. Bangladesh buys Warships
c. Forex returns back to Bank of England
d. Maintenance services provide a continued line of revenue.

We have made all the mistakes and are learning from them... hope bangladesh does better.

This is inevitable. Bangladesh does not make spares for marine engines (or in some cases is even incapable of repairing sensors, weapons etc.) of the components of a ship. Forget spares for gas turbines, Dilli door ast.

However ToT for frigates must be taken even if expensive (and even if from the UK which will be expensive). Largest ship we have made locally is a small corvette. Unlike Pakistan which already manufactured submarines and Frigates, we have yet to undertake large naval projects like this, because there was simply no need to - so far.

Why kick India out of BOB???? India does have as much right on BOB as much right BD and Myanmar have as nature shares BOB with India too..... To kick India out of BOB this is not scs or other ocean of this world.....

The Type 31e frigate competition for the Royal Navy was between the German Meko A200 class, the BAE-proposed Leander class and Babcock-made Arrowhead 140 class designs (Arrowhead was based on the Iver Huitfeld class hull design). This was shown by the 3-ship image in the other thread on this subject. The Babcock Arrowhead 140 was chosen.

Here are the details for the Babcock Arrowhead 140 (which is essentially an Iver Huitfeld class frigate for the Royal Danish Navy as shown below).

The conceptual sketch and render for the Babcock Arrowhead 140 looks like this (this is from the yard's own page), no example is built yet.
It is clear that Babcock expected this platform to become a successful export product. Price is estimated to be (all up) around UKP400 Million. With Bribe, Bangladesh will end up paying UKP600 Million a copy at least, even if built in Bangladesh.

The first Type 31 ship will be in the water in 2023, handed over to the RN in 2025 and fully in-service by 2027. If chosen, Bangladesh will not get its first ship anytime before 2030, if built in the UK.

Here is Royal Navy Type 31 built timeline (purple color item in the image on this page). The timeline for a follow on Type 32 is already in place as well.

Nah 3 will be built in UK, 2 in bd.

So I guess this means MRCA ie EFT ain’t happening since that would have been announced by now
UK did not have frigates sir its means BD will buy some light ships like patrol crafts ?

the Italians use the extended range version with a longer range than the 56km used by the RN.

on the bright side, DEFSECA will be proven wrong lol no credibility left.

of course we could all be wrong and the deal is for Batch 2 river class OPV. Remember BN wanted 6 frigates not 5.
