What's new

Bangladesh unveil $43.6 billion budget for 2016-2017.

I don't know much of our economics as per my general knowledge Central govt grants are distributed through finance commission recommendation. They are mainly given to infrastructure development.. It will be around 10% of state budget for healthier states of the Union.. And there are other welfare schemes launched by central govt.. Roughly out of every 100 rs tax paid state govt gets more than 60rs on avg.. State and center both can fix new taxes through legislation but they are answerable to public after completing their terms.
Let me be clear with some spcifics.
From my understanding police is the responsibility of the state. How much does center support in paying the salary of police?

Law and order is state subject..Education, public distribution system also comes under state govt..I am from karnataka state. Total state budget is around 24 billion $..out of which central grant is only 2billion.. As I said before these grants are only for infrastructure development.. There are other central welfare schemes which are common for all states..

Don't you think 40$tax for every 100$ product is too much??

.
70 billion would have been the correct amount in case of Bangladesh. Many European welfare states have budget almost half of their gdp..

It's right.

For exemple over here the public spendings is at 55.1% of the GDP,nearly at €1.230 trillion.
This might seem a lot,but more than the half of the public spendings go to the social security. (More than even than the central government and local/regional authorities spendings combined.)

What's the ratio of spending to GDP in BD ? @BDforever
And what's the budget deficit ?

1. Spending ratio is 19% of GDP (this time)
2. budget deficit is within 5% of GDP (always like this)
we have big problem of tax collection, we have 50 million who are at least middle income ppl but only 1.2 million ppl give tax, rest hides.

Your claim does not add up. Where do the federal government spends? I doubt your state could collect 24 billion revenue to spend on budget, on top of Federal collection

Yes central budget allocates state grants.. Those grants are included in state budget as I said earlier

Non-government jobs hasn't followed suit. Also, trying to switch to a consumer based economy before taking full benefit of industrial revolution is bad for any nation.

Salaries in the private sector in BD has grown leaps and folds. This is only levelling the pay between public and private employees.

What makes you think that BD is not industrialising? Garments industry is growing leaps and bounds. Other sectors like electronics, pharmaceuticals, IT and shipbuilding are growing rapidly. Heavy industry will come once the infrastructure like power, roads, railways and ports that are currently being built are in place.

If they were growing, our main source of export wouldn't still be the garments sector and remittance wouldn't eclipse it. Except for garments, the others have only being polished by the government and presented to the media.

Private sector salaries haven't made any significant increase and haven't kept up with increasing price of commodities. The government is trying to play its card by not reducing oil and electricity prices even though global prices have decreased and say that we are making economic growth.

Government is saying poverty has dropped, how, they haven't increased the poverty line and adjusted it to inflation.

Let us look at private monthly sector salaries in BD now:

1. Courier / Delivery / Transport / Drivers 10,369 BDT
2. Fitness / Hair / Beauty20,000 BDT
3. Construction / Building / Installation 28,500 BDT

This is easily double what people were getting paid only 5 years ago. The salary increase takes into account both inflation and also a share of the growing economy.

The salary has been constant for the last 3 years. And, no, there is no way No.2 is correct. The actual salary is between 12,000-15,000 Taka for a beautician. Construction jobs, don't know which part it's referring to. Also, the prices of most commodities have increased by 3-5 times in the last 5 years (this excludes packaged foods which are considered luxury in Bangladesh).
