In India, Kutchi Memons, Mappila Muslims of Kerala gives very high importance to ethnicity, own culture while following Islam. What is wrong with own culture? A Bangali cannot be a Afghan and vice versa. When you meet Urdu speaking north Indian/Dakhni/Pathani Muslims, they see these Malabari/Memon groups as not Muslim enough (arguably). The Hyderabadi Dakhni Urdu speaking Dravidian-Gurjar people on the other hand gave more importance to Urdu and although Hyderabad is in Deccan (South), technically should be a suburb of Deoband, one of the Sunni Muslim ideological centre situated in Uttar Pradesh.
