Bangladesh has secured the 10th position out of 50 participating countries in 29th International Mathematical Competition (IMC) 2022 held in Bulgeria.
More than 700 students took part in the competition on online and offline platforms. The participants are graduation students from universities and within the age limit of 23 years, reports our Dhaka University correspondent.
The five-member team of Bangladesh scored 197.8 in the week-long competition began on August 1 in American University in Bulgeria in collaboration with University College London.
The team members are Sabbir Rahman, fourth-year student of computer science department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology; Atanu Roy Chowdhury, second-year student of mathematics and physics department of BRAC University; Mehedi Hasan Nowshad, third-year student of mathematics department of Dhaka University; and Zubayer Rahman and Md Hasan Kibria, fourth-year students of computer science and engineering department of DU.
Team Bangladesh participated in the competition online from through DU's mathematics department under the supervision of Bangladesh Mathematical Society.
Assistant professor of the department, Md Shariful Islam was the coach of the team and Prof Dr Md Shahidul Islam, president of Bangladesh Mathematical Society and chairman of the department, was its coordinator.
Bangladesh participated in the competition for the first time with the financial and technical support from AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation.
