Bangladesh Revolution News and Updates

If people want to go for pure "secularism", then removing Islam as the state religion will be one of the key challenges.

Why don't they initiate a referendum to do so? Let the people of the nation vote and hear their voices.

If they say 'no' to removing Islam as the state religion, then so be it.

If they say 'yes' to removing Islam as state religion, then so be it.

Then why are they running around like rats burning corporate property and boycotting them even though they aren't in any way related to Jamaat?

It is worth noting that it wasn't Jamaat or any theocratic party that made Islam the state religion, it was Ershad during his era.

Living proof that secularism doesn't automatically translate to 'progress'.

.
R a z a k a r based politics of AL must be baned first, they call everyone R a z a k a r who point their finger to their fascism.

And Islam dose not encourage Nationalism, tribalism over Islam. It's Allah who we are accountable to at first, not the Nation.

.
The whole thing is stupid.

The shahbagis should have distanced themselves from the atheist bloggers. Some of them did make stupid comments about Islam. Ppl in this part of the world take their religion seriously.
People who are benefitted by this episode:
1. Mahmudur Rahman--has become a household name and champion of Islam. He even said he wouldn't mind dying for religion.
2. Jamaat--People are weary of Shahbagh, the government has sent messages to people saying its not against Islam etc, but the damage is done.
3. AL--it will try to cash the spirit of Liberation War among the 20 percent swinging voters. If it gets 8/10 percent of them, it can expect to win 150+ seats.
4. Small Islsmic Parties--have flexed their muscles. Might come handy to get one/two nominations during the upcoming elections from big alliances.

Biggest losers

1. Home Minister--some ppl are calling him a collaborators. Firing gunshots inside a mosque, and that too the biggest in the country, is a moronic decision.
2. The BNP-- it is a lameass. How long it will remain one only time can tell.

Static
1. The Left--Delivered the fruit in the AL godown. And did it with care. Recruited 10/15 workers who might not even vote for the left. They were a joke and are meant to remain one. Has great nuisance value though.

Whole thing was not stupid, it was all pre planned and pre planned things are not stupid. By the way what makes you think Awami league will get 150+ seat? In a election with caretaker govt with its anti Islamic image, how many people are ready to commit suicide again?

.
@snugglepot , BAL getting 150 + after all they have done is not possible in a 1000 years IMO. BAL arranged this drama exactly for this reason. A well planned and heavily funded drama. Also what this farce have showed is that leftist dalals have gained enormous power and media is totally in their hands now. The best side of all this is that, all the darkest slave mentality bigots got exposed through shabag.:)

Lutfi, I am not a big fan of the AL. But if the 8 percent swings, it means 50/60 seats. Without the swing, the AL will get 35/40 seats at best.
It's a nationalist movement, which the AL is trying to cash.
The left are not going to get nefefitted. They have no influence in the country...

But leftist/communist are the biggest criminals in the country. They are driving awami league and attacking and being used as tool to attack Muslim majority faith. inu, Menon, Barua and their parties need to be eliminated, not to mention borno chola leftists.

.
The Leftist are doing what they did to Sheikh Mujib. Sent him on top of a tree and the ladder broke after that. Hasina is not going to fall for the left. She might not ban Jamaat and the AL is quite weary/scared of Shahbag, because anyone can replicate it anytime anywhere. Not a good prospect for the ruling party.
There might not be any verdict as long as shahbag is in full force.
At the end of the day AL might make a deal with all the political parties to find a way out of the mess.

I am sorry but I have to point out much of your reading on this wrong. Hasina already fallen for communist and they are the calling shot from inside and attacking Islam and anyone defefnding its value. These awami/communist fascists had moved their target from "war crime" to newspaper, editor, business and to Islam. Awami League food minister in BBC said they are looking for opportunity to get rid of Islam from constitution. Awami Communist duo crossed all boundaries of terror using state power and arms. Issue is no longer about "warcrime". Its about Majority Muslim population and their values vs Awami league and communist led nastik/fascists.

It fits with Awami League track record of being anti-Muslim and anti-Islam. No Muslim should vote for this anti-Islam and anti-Muslim party, which is protected and funded by our neighbor, the Hindu "super power".

You are precise in respect of BAL's initial plan, Idune----nevertheless, snugglepot also appear to be correct in summing up the current scenario. In fact:

1. Initial Plan of BAL (due to which she deeply fell for 'the lefts')---as you said---was to re-use (mass sentiment again & again) centering WC Trial but more to hit the additional 'bigger' target (as coaxed by 'lefts') was to ban Islamic politics JI and all), institution, businesses, orgs.

2. Jolted by the "gr-grr" of Ulema lions, and finding suddenly that BAL itself caught in a trap, she has backed out from banning Islamic parties & others---even JI. Now her stance is that BAL will not ban any one on its own unless ordered by the court. She wants none to speak on this issue, at all (and 'bum' and 'Shahbagi's are fuming to see miss the 'prey' and and to watch closely how Ulemas will re-act if BAL gag only JI, and whether BNP & JI will be able to arouse Ulemas again even to higher temperatire' on that issue. BAL suddenly realized that their image of a pro-islamic party which painstakingly was built by SH performing haj and then traveling all places with hijab on head and beads at hand is growingly dis-appearing. Now maybe hundred hajjs will not be adequate. Patronizing Shahbagis and applying excessive force & killing more than 2 dozens, now BAL is potrayed as "Patrons of Atheists"----too deadly-lethal for a mass-oriented vote-seeking political party. Currently, Govt is too worried: "Lefts" and "Shahbagis ', too realized BAL's deception (1) It can not (because of 'Judicial' procedures / International Watch-dogs hang any one like that nor in a position to afford "banning" JI ? Islamic politics (as demaded by the 'master' using executive power---because of the risks from Ulema (and BNP JI) potential combination in any event as mistrust is rampant---furher complicated by Mahmudur. It is very likely that Shabagis and "Lefts" will become a big laibility on BAL soon---more public ramifications are likely which may be triggered by recent ToI news. (Headline in 'amardesh' and 1st page in 'Naya Diganta'). Mass will swallow this piece without salt & water---as many had been suspecting such from many obvios indications. Sorrily, BAL & SH are trapped in the same hole dug by them. (2) Ulema will cotinuously push BAL to route-out and 'dis-own' Shahbagis' as they are not trusted by Ulemas as one may do for the snakes, and also not to arrest Mahmudur, and may errupt again / any time in the process. Awaitings in cue are 'What BNP does with mass-related real-life issues, Padma Bridge (after Canadian Court takes up the case in April, and discloses few names) etc. etc. Another long-brewing issue is 'Not forgottent' 'Not forgeven' 25th February---in the spitit of '71.

3.But, snugglepot is expecting an "all party' meeting will ease-out / remove the mess. What many are apprehending, that further mistakes BAL and its obstinacy / not aggreeing to CTG---may incite further highly-flammable mistakes. JI is a 'cornered' cat now---proverb says that it may now go for the jugular. So, all players now need 'cool' & 'level' heads. BNP should play an ideal 'balanced' role now as a saner player, and show how it is better than BAL. Or, is it really?

I think we will be doing a big mistake by taking Hasina's action at face value. Awami League and it's communist partners are recalibrating and buying time and taking Islamic and opposition leaders in prison in the background. Awami league is also closing madrassa and Islamic institutions. And then Awami League and communist will strike back again. We have seen this indo awami game pattern way too many times. I value your post and snugglepot for that matter but I am afraid Indo Awami deception is not one layered plan. And there is specific reason why and at this stage indian national security advisor revealed indian involvement behind shahbagh fascist.

Excellent analysis. I think we can learn a lot about on the ground situation from discussions between the three posters:

@idune
@snugglepot
@Straight

idune is active. I think all of us will gain a better perspective if we get more posts from snugglepot and Straight.

I am expecting something big before June. There is another force at work here, they are playing with both sides like the way it happened in the past.

1. The Padma bridge episode left a raw taste in the mouth of the West. In fact, the saga is still going on. The AL loves to have lime really bitter it seems.

2. The BDR massacre is going to play a role in the immediate future.

3. Prof Yunus has been humiliated, the US is snubbed on several occasions. Sheikh Hasina is not Hugo Chavez or Fidel Castro. Even Mujib were able to throw tantrums at the US as he enjoyed certain popularity at some point in the seventies. But the present government is one of the most unpopular in recent history.

4. All this financial scams are piling up.

5. It needs something big to lit a fire in the tinderbox and it might be in the offing.

The AL's game:

6. Let the BNP remain in hibernation.

7. Play along with Shahbag (But it has become the AL's pet project, and is increasingly becoming a liability thanks to the stupid atheist bloggers).

8. Some bomb blasts (am not pointing finger at anyone here), which will put Jamaat at the backseat of the affairs.

9. Saydee not getting death penalty. (Shahbag might swell again, some ordinary ppl might become angry and will put the blog stupidities out of the news)

10. Start Padma bridge with Indian credit line.

11. A situation (am not saying the AL will do it) where Islami bank etc will be attacked at a mass scale and ppl who support the JI will launch attack on newspapers, businesses etc, which will prompt state of emergency. Hasina will be the President, head of armed forces and Rehana will be the new PM. The latter is not plausible for the army will have to be called in, and the AL doesn't want to deploy even the BGB, let alone the men in olive.

12. Sit with Jamaat, delay the trial. Dilly dally. Wait till the elections and give death penalty to a few in the run up to the elections, and ride on the flow.

13. The AL is quite scared of original Shahbag, they are afraid that it could have turned against them. What if others follow suit?

In a nutshell: the AL has messed it up. The Islamist parties (minus Jamaat) are going to play a crucial role here. The more mess they create, the more interesting the situation it will become. BD is any political scientists dream country now.

Given fluid situation and so many variables, all these are speculative at this point. That is all the comments one can make.
