Urging India to “protect and guarantee fundamental rights of every citizen”, Bangladesh Education Minister Dipu Moni on Saturday said that “unbiased application of the provisions of the Constitution on freedom of religion and freedom to manage religious affairs” will bring peace and sustainability.

Addressing a conclave in Bengaluru, Moni also called for protection of minorities in India. “It is applicable for all our countries,” she added.

Moni was addressing a session titled ‘India@2047’ at the India Ideas Conclave, organised by India Foundation, a think-tank working closely with BJP and RSS.

“For India to emerge as one of the respected global powers, it has to realise the dreams of the founding fathers as enunciated in the Constitution,” Moni said. “Protecting and guaranteeing fundamental rights of citizens can set the stage for India to unleash the potential of its citizens, in particular people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and women from all sections of the society.”

Moni said, “(The) social stratification unique to India will not only deprive the weaker sections but (will) also allow divisive policies and approaches. Stating that protection of interest of minorities of all nature — including minorities with a distinct language and culture — can “help deter tension and avoid sectarian violence”, Moni said “this is applicable for all countries”.

BD has started to "flex it's muscles" as regards India now.

Over the last 1-2 years BD has also been demanding that India engages in fairer trade and that already seems to have had effects with 2 billion US dollars of exports expected this fiscal.

India should not take this as an attack on it but a friendly neighbour giving sensible advice. BD wants a tolerant and prosperous India.

The goodwill that India used to enjoy from westerners has ebbed way.

It will soon turn hostile.

As Muslims have found - that hostility has consequences.

We can see a more equal relationship between India and BD now.

BD's stability and growing economic strength will allow BD to start demanding more and more from India. India's ability to dictate to BD has diminished a lot over the last 10 years.

Even Modi has realised that staying on friendly terms with BD is in his own best interest - the prosperity and territorial integrity of NE India states and W Bengal, and hence his own hold on power, depend on this.

India needs BD more then ever to counter the Chinese influence.

BD is neutral between India and China.

It will not take sides in any dispute or war between the two.

Like I say the prosperity and territorial integrity of W Bengal and the NE states depend on India having a friendly relationship with BD.

The days of India dictating to BD are long gone.

Wish BD all the best in making their own decisions.

What is the overall view of Bangladeshis towards Pakistan? Is there a sense of hatred due to the war of 72? Perhaps a sense of distrust?

No we do not hate them but think they do not know how to govern themselves.

We wish they would get their act together after 75 years of independence and join the rest of S Asia in creating a prosperous region.

Pakistan inherited political family mafias which it is unable to irradicate. Involved itself in Afghanistan, allowed the US to freely operate across the nation.
Cannot see the nation prosper.

You are sadly probably right.

Maybe the people of Pakistan will demand better when in 15-20 years down the line they can see India and BD far ahead of them and want the same for their country.

By that time many thousands, even millions would have left the nation for the west.
