Bahrain's oil minister, Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Khalifa, has announced the discovery of the largest oil field in the country's history, with huge reserves of oil and gas, the largest reserves explored since 1932.

The Bahraini minister said that the quantities of light oil and associated gas, discovered more than 80 billion barrels, pointing out that the geological survey resulted in the discovery of large quantities of gas in the deep layers of the Bahrain field estimated between 10 to 20 trillion cubic feet.

Located off the west coast of Bahrain, independent assessments by De Gaulir, McCarton and Halliburton confirm the discovery by the National Oil and Gas Authority of large quantities of oil in the Gulf of Bahrain in the western region of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Expected reserves are more than 80 billion barrels, in addition to large quantities of gas in the deep layers of the Bahrain field estimated between 10 to 20 trillion cubic feet, and the discovery of new oil from rock oil is located on an area of about 2000 square kilometers, and estimates by two US companies go up to 280 billion to 560 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Gulf of Bahrain basin.

"The National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) aims to attract foreign oil and gas companies to develop the Bahrain Bay field, which covers an area of up to 2,000 square kilometers", the Bahraini oil minister said at a press conference in Manama. He said an agreement had already been signed with Hollybarton to drill two more valuation wells this year, identify the reserves potential and start long-term production.

Bahrain also plans to invite international oil companies to help develop its first major oil discovery in decades, hoping to start production from the field within five years.

That's a very decent amount to supplement an already booming petroleum-based economy and industry.
The Bahrainis have mastered the art of financing and even though GDP is small, by size it's not that bad and the way they invest and support one of the highest valued currencies in the world says a lot. Even their textiles industry is impressive, especially their aluminum production.

That is true, now imagine with this find.. Bahrain was the only GCC country poor in Oil and gas reserves.. now this changes everything..watch some more Vipers coming soon..among other modern systems:lol:.. it will compete with Qatar peer to peer.. and let the big ones take care of other more important issues.. Heck it just allowed a British base too..

Bahrain discovers offshore oilfield 'containing 80bn barrels'

Bahrain currently produces about 50,000 barrels of oil per day from the Bahrain Field, which was discovered in 1932. It also gets another 150,000 barrels per day from the Abu Saafa field, which it shares with Saudi Arabia.

While >>> Yemeni rebels target Saudi oil industry

The Yemeni rebel group Ansar Allah (Houthis) claimed to have carried out three rocket attacks on Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) facilities in 10 days and has also been accused of attacking a Saudi oil tanker.

When it unveiled its new Badr-1 surface-to-surface weapon system on 24 March, the group said it had been used to attack an Aramco facility. It then claimed to have used Badr-1s to attack Aramco facilities in the southern province of Jizan on 29 March and 4 April.
