BAE Systems ready to bid again for fighter jet deal with India

Britain’s BAE Systems is reported to be preparing a fresh bid which may include cutting down the prices for the world’s biggest fighter jet order despite India’s rejection of its Eurofighter Typhoon in favour of France’s Dassault Rafale.

India chose the French fighter in January in a deal worth nearly 13 billion pounds, for 126 aircraft. India’s decision had disappointed many in Britain, including Prime Minister David Cameron. In a report without mentioning the source of information, The Mail today said: “BAE believes that when India scrutinises the Rafale and assesses the French submission, it will realise the Eurofighter is a superior aircraft that will be cheaper overall”.

“If the Indians are willing to look again at the Eurofighter and there are indications that is happening, a revised bid will be ready for them,” it added.

“BAE has even come up with designs for a marine version of the Eurofighter in case the Indians want to fly it from aircraft carriers,” the report said.

The report said that Ian King, BAE chief executive, had not ruled out reducing the price of the Typhoon.

“The Eurofighter, which is built in partnership with the German and Spanish arms of defence giant EADS and Italy’s Finmeccanica, lost out because it was about 3.5 million pounds a plane more expensive than the Rafale”, the report said.

“And the French, according to the Indians, offered better after-deals, including technology upgrades and the latest weaponry,” it added.

There were earlier suggestions that Britain’s aid to India was partly designed to help win the major contract, which has since been denied.

It will only help us while on the negotiation table with France nothing else. We can get the best value for money from Desault...

Indians have tested TOT of Rafale and now they are playing games to get it from Euro?

i would say F*** because rupee fell down to large extent and virtually it would be same price wrt India . :hitwall:

we couldnt cash value of time

It's not Indians who are playing games here. You would realize that if you had better reading skills. Also, ToT is not something one "tests".

Euro fighter is a good plane, India should seriously consider buying it.

It is, especially in A2A and we did considered it seriously, but we chose the better fighter for our requirements.

Too little, too late IMO. Makes you wonder why they didn't do so when the completion was still on- arrogance much?

Anyway the way I read the scenario- this move by BAE is irrelevant. MoD has moved into exclusive negotiations with Dassult for the sale of the Rafale after the Rafale was found to be the lowest cost fighter of the two EuroCanards-L1. Now the only way for the EFT to get back in the fray is if, for whatever reasons, the talks between Dassualt and MoD break down and the MMRCA as a whole is thus scrapped and re-tendered down the line- which will proboboly mean all 6 contenders will again participate. AFAIK the MoD has stopped talking to BAE/EADS on the MMRCA front as they lost. MoD has already said there is no chance of EFT rejoining- this would be completely unprecedented and 100% against established procedures and norms.

As far as I'm concerened these guys can jump up and down all they like, it will make no difference- the IAF has selected the best possible fighter in the competition and the deal will be finalised later this FY. Maybe this news will encourage Dassualt to offer even MORE goodies in the deal!!
