Azme Nau-3 exercise not against India

RAWALPINDI: The biggest Army Field Exercise, titled Azm-e-Nau-3, is scheduled to be held from 10 April to 13 May 2010 and 20,000 officers and jawans of Pakistan Army would participate in these exercises.
Director General Military Training of Pakistan Army, Major General Muzamil in a special briefing to reporters here Monday told that these exercises are neither against India nor have any link with Pakistans political relations with India.
Spokesperson of Pakistan Army, Major General Athar Abass was also present on the occasion.
Major General Muzamil said that the Chief of Army Staff had declared 2009 as Year of Training and the Army continued the process of training and Azm-e-Nau-1 and Azm-e-Nau-2 War Games were conducted. He said that India has been informed regarding exercises.
On menace of terrorism, Major General Muzamil said that tackling the situation in traditional war and to respond enemies preparedness would be focused.
He said that Pakistan is facing several strategic challenges and wants peace but would maintain minimum sustainable strategic deterrence.
The field exercise involves troops belonging to all arms and services and also includes Pakistan Air Force. The exercise is a culmination of a long and deliberate process of war games, discussions and logistic evolution of the Concept of Warfare that is fully responsive to a wide menu of emerging threats, he added.
He said that these exercises would be conducted in South Punjab, Sialkot and areas of Sindh, adding Special Forces would also take part in these exercises, adding all efforts would be taken to avoid damage to civil population and crops.
Major General Muzamil said that no additional budget has been allocated for these exercises, adding After Zarb-e-Momin, these exercises would be biggest exercises.
Responding to a question, he said that after becoming nuclear power, the strategic paradigm has been changed and India, in two years, conducted 12 military exercises and Pakistan is aware of the situation.
He said that new Arms and Missile System would also be used in these exercises and strategy to tackle any situation would be finalized after reviewing every aspect of danger.
The exercise is a concept validation stage of the operational thought process manifested in the form of tactical, operational and organizational aspects which would be validated and refined through the lessons learnt.
It is prudent to note that Pakistan Army follows biennial training system, wherein, training objectives set forth are to be achieved over a span of two years, according to ISPR.
The training remains mission oriented based on the obtaining security environment. The training is methodical and progressive, culminating into Map Exercise / War games / field exercises at various levels of command.
A special feature of this exercise would be harvesting the technological achievements advancement in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance and communication means that have revolutionized warfare.
These shall be optimally leveraged in the forth coming exercise. These capabilities are expected to act as force multipliers by reducing the fog of war for own troops, obviating enemy surprise and reducing own reaction time. All available surveillance and reconnaissance assets would be practiced / utilized in the exercise to validate their efficacy.
