. . . .

Azerbaijan already spends 1+ billion on procurement per year, if I had to guess, there are some contracts being negotiated, and Turkey provided this funding as a way to influence decision making, currently Azerbaijan is receiving/ in the process of receiving additional TR-122/300 MLRS, negotiating for 36 Firtina IIs, and wanting to be included in Turkish aviation programs such as Hurjet, UAVs and 5th generation TF-X.

Some information released by MoD during interview

Air Force is purchasing both training and combat aircraft from Italy (M-346 and M-346FA), according to released info Air Force currently has 15 M-346 on order and unknown customer has put an order for 6 M-346FAs, fair to assume they are intended for Azerbaijan.

Air Force is also set on purchasing combat aircraft from Russia, particularly interested in Su-35 and MiG-35, while also showing interest in Su-57

Lastly, Air Force is studying possibility of acquiring Turkish drones, my guess interest lies within heavier UCAVs currently in development, such as Akinci, I expect Qatar and Azerbaijan to be among first export customers. Possibly even expect Azerbaijan pushing for joint production.

I think that the Bayraktar TB-2 seems like a logical choice for Azerbaijan aswell given its track record in slaughtering Russian air defence systems. However no doubt the heavier Akinci or Aksungur will finds it place in Azeri Air Force aswell.

Azerbaijan really has no use for TB-2 due to low payload, Armenia has a lot of targets within 10kms of front line, large bases and etc. Akinci can stay out of danger zone, while still dropping guided bombs on such targets. 40 to 50 Akinci UCAVs would be a game change for Air Force, and if joint production is established, losing some would not be a problem compared to damage they will deal. Overall, Turkish progress in aviation is a game changer for Azerbaijan, which has very few procurement opportunities, and we will be seeing a lot of cooperation in future programs, It will be specially interesting to see developments in helicopters, as Air Force has revealed their requirement of 150 additional helicopters + replacement of Soviet ones.

Well apparently Azerbaijan is getting Bayraktar TB-2. I think its healthy to have a variaty in classes of drones. No doubt Aksungur and Akinci are also on the minds of Azerbaijani armed forces.

The wet dream of all Turks, joint development of weapons with Azerbaijan. Never understood why there's such a low level of cooperation right now.
