Ashok Leyland, a flagship company of the Hinduja Group and founded in 1948 has noted increased demand from the defence sector. Having claimed 13 of the last 15 tenders floated by the Indian Defence, the company is poised to see increased revenue from defence business over the next five years.

Mr. Vinod Dasari, MD, Ashok Leyland has cited that they are an INR 500 crore company in defence as on date, which is set to increase to INR 2,000 crores over the next five years.

Ashok Leyland aims to offer an entire range of mobility solutions to the defence forces along with missile carrying vehicles. The company commenced operations with the Indian Defence solely as suppliers of 4×4 vehicles while as on date it offers a range of solutions that also include missile carrying vehicles while supplies also include 6×6 and 8×6 vehicles. The company also makes bridge launchers on 10×10 and has even won tenders for the same while they even have a 12×12 for carrying a missile.

Ashok Leyland Defence Systems (ALDS) is well versed with the manufacture of vehicles catering to all logistic requirements of the defence along with troop/load carries, ambulances, light recovery vehicles and artillery tractors along with truck fire fighting vehicles.

Earlier this year, Ashok Leyland Defence Systems (ALDS) entered into an agreement with US based defence contractors, Lockheed Martic Corp for the development of compact vehicles for the Indian Army. Lockheed Martin base platforms will be used to develop light specialist and light armoured multipurpose vehicles for the Indian Army.
