Aselsan has established a company with KADDB in Jordan

Aselsan, Turkish electronics and electronic systems company, has established a company with Jordans King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) to produce a night vision and thermal imaging system.

In a statement released on May 11, Aselsan said the ASELSAN Middle East company was established with 51 percent of the shares belonging to KADDB and the remaining 49 percent to Aselsan. It also announced that its starting capital would be 2 million Jordanian dinars.

So is Aselsan helping Jordan with an indigenous system development? Can you give an example of how this cooperation will work. I imagine that the engineers in Turkeys Aselsan center will test and give feedback to the company in Jordan, but maybe there is another way of doing things.

Cabatli : I wonder why Aselsan hasn't entered into more JVs with other countries ? Some in your neighbourhood - the Ukrainians, some of the other former (industrialized) Soviet States, Egypt or those elsewhere - Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa and...Pakistan cheesy produce things in varying degree of importance ? Why restrict yourself to some of the few Middle-Eastern countries ? (not that there is anything wrong with that but simply why so many other avenues of opportunity are left unexplored ?)

I think Turkeys defence exports will jump up quickly once it starts like an avalanche. We've just recently begun exporting and we're fairly new in the market, but once our products gets the field testing they need it'll result in more demand. Plus ME is where most of the world oil is located, plus they're our neighbours so in a way we're interested in harmonizing with our neighbours before the rest of the world. Also ME is also where Turkey has gained most prestige in the last few years, so it'd only be rational to use these advantages.

I think the success criteria for me would be the day a turkish passport would be enough to get into a country without visa or any other trouble.
