Argentina plans to buy 12 JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from Pakistan, as per international
media reports.
One report states that Argentina has officially included $664 Million in funding for the purchase of 12 PAC JF-17A Block III fighters from Pakistan in a draft budget for 2022.
The budget has been presented in the country's parliament, said the news report. However, this does not mean that the deal has been finalised as Argentina has not signed on the sale accord yet but it shows the country's intention to buy the fighter aircraft from Pakistan.
Argentina has tried to buy jets from a few other countries in the world over the past couple of years but always fallen short due to a lack of funds or British objections.
Most recently last year, Britain blocked the sale of South Korean fighter jets to Argentina.
The Argentine Defence Minister described the move as British “imperial pride” before posting “Malvinas Argentinas” on Twitter.
JF-17 Thunder details
According to the UK Defence Journal, the JF-17 Thunder is a single-engine multi-role combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China. The builders say that the JF-17 can be used for multiple roles, including interception, ground attack, anti-ship, and aerial reconnaissance.
More than half of the JF-17 airframe, including its front fuselage, wings, and vertical stabiliser, is produced in Pakistan, whereas 42% is produced in China, with the final assembly taking place in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Argentina plans to purchase 12 JF-17 Thunder aircraft from Pakistan, it emerged on Friday.
The news was revealed by Pakistan Strategic Forum on Twitter, stating that the South American country has officially included $664 million (Rs111.6 billion) in funding for the purchase of fighter jets in a draft budget for 2022 presented to its Parliament.
The Argentine Air Force has selected Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder, rejected offers from Russia, USA and India.
“The 12 JF-17s will include 10 single seater Block IIIs and 2 dual seat Block IIIs,” the forum said in a tweet.
“The PAC JF-17A Block III is a supersonic, multirole 4+ generation fighter aircraft able to perform combat air patrol, air interdiction, beyond visual range integrated battle, long range maritime strikes, standoff range precision ground strikes, anti-radiation SEAD/DEAD missions and electronic warfare,” it added.
The two nations have had friendly ties for a while as Argentina has been supported the resolution put forward by Pakistan on the right to self-determination which is debated annually at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Argentina has officially allocated
$664 million in its next year’s budget for the acquisitions of 12 JF-17 Block-III fighter jets from Pakistan.
The 12 fighter jets will include
10 single-seater Block IIIs and 2 dual-seater Block IIIs, stated the details.
Previously in last December, it was first stated that Argentina was considering acquiring JF-17 Thunder aircraft from Pakistan to associate its defensive competencies.
Whereas, Argentine Air Force (AAF) had made a contract with the South Korean aerospace company, KAI, for the procurement of 12 FA-50 fighter jets.
Conversely, South Korea canceled the deal after it capitulated to the diplomatic compression of the United Kingdom (UK), which is Argentina’s geopolitical opponent.
Ties between the UK and Argentina have been stressed since the 1980s after the latter attacked British Overseas Territories (BOTS), namely the Falkland Islands and its territorial dependency, South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands, in 1982.
The move ensued in the 10-week long assumed Falklands War that ended with a British victory.
Defense specialists are of the view that the procurement of JF-17 Block-III fighter jets by the AAF could have enormous political and military complications for the UK next to the Falkland Islands and the South Sandwich Islands.
Whereas, The JF-17 Block III is a supersonic, multi-role 4+ generation fighter aircraft. It is capable of performing combat air patrol, air interdiction, beyond visual range, integrated battle, long-range maritime strikes, standoff range precision ground strikes, anti-radiation SEAD/DEAD missions, and electronic warfare.
Its primary weapon is the PL-15 active radar-guided long-range air-to-air missile with an operational range of more than 180 km. Its subordinate weapon is the PL-10 IR missile which is a short-range air-to-air missile with an operative range of 20 km.
The JF-17 has a top speed of Mach 2.0, a service ceiling of over 55,000 feet, and a newer and much more powerful engine than its precursors.
It also topographies superior sensor fusion and avionics (especially electronic warfare systems), a large HUD and Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) targeting systems, and 8 hardpoints for the assortment of missiles.
