One of the more amusing facets of Indian foreign policy. An assertive India that deals aggressively with global titans like the United States, Russia and Britain turns embarrassingly shy around Islamabad. Contrast this to Pakistan's modest foreign policy with the rest of the globe and yet when it comes to dealing with New Delhi, they morph into suave policy pushers.

Why the disparity? Simple, It's because India willfully lets Pakistan win.

Can the geographical proximity count as a discounting factor for aggressive diplomacy here?

1.Generally the Political heads of India have been from North India. And North India has a certain amount of love for Pakistan. That IMO does play a role.

South Indians OTOH just dont care. They will treat Pakistan just like any other nation and our diplomacy will change.

2. Pakistan's general policy and oft repeated in international diplomatic circles- of holding a gun to its own head and threatening others plays a major role. India being a neighbour has to be more worried than any other nation about Pakistan's state. That makes India automatically go defensive.

Spot On..I as a South Indian don't care if Northies hold the political power, but South Indians/West /East or NE Indians should be appointed in the diplomacy dept so as to make sure that the Northies don't go ga ga over Aman Ki Asha.
