KARACHI: Pakistan’s young fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who was suspended by International Cricket Council (ICC) in September last year over his alleged involvement in spot fixing, is likely to get clean-chit from the independent tribunal of the apex cricket body.
Based on the allegations made by British tabloid News of the World (NOTW), the independent tribunal would conduct hearing starting from January 6.
Mohammad Amir was emerged as the most promising rising star in international arena after his impressive performance in the ICC World Twenty20 2009 at England which Pakistan won under the captaincy of Younus Khan.
Since then, Amir continued to impress in all three formats of the game and was on his peak during this summer in England where he continued to demolish the opposition batsmen. The combination of double ‘As’, i.e. Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, was reminded the people of famous double ‘Ws’ (Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis) combination.
Amir was alleged by the British tabloid NOTW along with his test team skipper Salman Butt and his opening bowling partner Mohammad Asif of spot fixing during the fourth npower test match at Lords for bowling no-balls.
Amir received the sympathy from all across the cricketing world as he was not only new to the international cricket and was naïve with laws but also the remote background he came from caused his ignorance with such crime of spot fixing.
ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat also showed his commitment with Mohammad Amir and said that ICC will try to release Amir from these allegations as he is not only new to international cricket but he is also a rising star in international arena and as ICC is a commercial organization and it needs rising stars like Mohammad Amir to get market recognition.
The impotent bowling attack of Pakistan will be boosted by the inclusion of Mohammad Amir in the squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to be staged in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
