It's about time the people of the United States finally rise up in support of national security -- a petition has surfaced on the White House "We The People" platform encouraging the government to "secure resources and funding and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016."
The Death Star was the weapon of choice in Star Wars for Darth Vader and the Empire in a galaxy far, far away. But if the U.S. is going to beef up its defense, why not with a superlaser that can destroy planets with a single beam?
We The People was created by the White House administration as a forum that promises official responses to petitions with at least 25,000 signatures. The Death Star petition currently has more than 1,600 signatures and a Dec. 14 deadline.
The creators of the petition also believe the galatic weapon will be a force of job creation -- and not just for rebels seeking to destroy it. "By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering [and] space exploration," the petition reads.

One of the most popular enthusiasts backing the effort is "Vader. D," listed at least three times.
Earlier this year, The Telegraph reported it would cost "13,000 times the world's gross domestic product (GDP), or £541,261 trillion, to supply the steel for such a structure fie while labour and other construction costs would send the price even higher." And liberal economist Paul Krugman once argued an alien invasion is exactly what we need to boost the global economy.
So may the force be with you all; you'll need it to keep the Rebel Alliance away in a few years.
