I just wish my stubborn parents would sell their assets here and go retire before they lose it all. If the US gets hit with another recession, which is looking more and more likely, Canada will go down with it.

Your parents are smarter then you give them credit for. Remember the "dollar devaluation" rumours that spread worldwide during the recent recession (2008-2009)? Speculators were hyping and promoting Euro as possible replacement of US dollar at global scale; encouraging many to invest in Euro currency.

And look what happened; dollar remained strong despite all odds and Europe slid in to economic crises. This is how unpredictable economic matters are. It is like a gamble; you don't know the game properly.

So don't speculate on economic outcomes. If you are a man of faith; their is additional reason not to.
