WELL WORTH THE MASSIVE $20 BILLION COST

Many defense experts in canada have placed the rafale as the best choice for their future fighter ahead of the F35 stealth fighter.

All C/D Hornets upgraded but still would be pahsed out by 2020+/-...Whatever the world says RCAF is going for F-35 despite it being shot legged over large Canadian Territories.

RCAF should have combination of both F-18 E/F Advanced and F-35 variant.

In terms of dog fights typhoon by virtue more powerful engines.

Ground strike rafale by virtue of better strike weapons and better ew suites ie spectra to avoid detection.

Bvr rafale having working aesa now typhoon no aesa yet

Costwise typhoon is 20% more expensive

SH has more powerful radar.
Rafale is much more agile and faster + it has supercruise.

Err no.

By the end of the decade, we should see stealth fighters like PAK-FA, J-20 and J-31 in service. All will be superior to Rafale.

Regarding PAK FA OR J31 these are test based fighters we have no idea how good or bas their radars weapons are likely to be

YES they maybe be better BUT NOT UNTIL well after 2020

Even then i would take a western ENGINE OR RADAR OR BVR RAMJET over any russian/or chinease equivalent

i have more faith in WESTERN top end technology

No range of punch? 180km not enough?

180 km is missile aerodynamic range, but at that range it can't hit a Zeppelin, let alone a fighter aircraft.

EDIT: missile range depends on a lot of factors, but as a rule of thumb maximum missile effective range is cca 1/5 of its maximum aerodynamic range, so AIM-120D has effective range of 36 km. I expect Meteor would do better.
