Altay tank prototype to be introduced at summer's end

Well only the first and second batch will have MTU Engines, The other 2 will have domestic Turkish 1800hp engines. Turkey is developing an entire Engine family from 35Hp till 1800Hp. Hyundai Rotem doesnt have any share in the project or saying it only acts as a coach for the project. There is barrely Korean Technology involved in the Altay Tank project, They only tranferred Know-how not technology.

Where do you have this informations about the first and the second batch order of the MTU engines. If that were true SSM had already prepared for the ordering of the 500 MTU engines. what i have read somewhere is that Otokar ordered only 5 Mtu Powerpacks for the Prototypes.
Responses to the Request for Proposal for the development of national powerpack family is ending on 27 july 2012 . The choosen firms have till 2016 plenty of time to develop and produce the engines. The developing of the Altay Engine will have first priorty .

Otokar already ordered 4 MTU Engines and is about to order 500 which obviously makes 2 Batches.

the company which will get the order for the first batch is not choosen yet. After the end of the developing of the prototypes ssm will seperatly choose the company for the serial production. therefore otokar can't already consider about the ordering of 500 engines. May be i am wrong ?. I think cabatli can enlighten us more.

In conference arranged with Turkey's leading engine manufacturers, Estimated time for totally new 1500hp engine development takes max. 5-7 years. National powerpack program development commenced in 2012 and First matured 1500hp domestic engine will be operation in 2017-18 If everything planned goes perfect. If we assess the matured Altay program to be ready for serial production in 2016-2017, It means that The national powerpack program with an accelerated development schedule will be reached for Altay MBT mass production...

BTW, Otokar is the main contactor of Altay program along with Aselsan-MKEK and Roketsan, responsible for design-development of tanks. Serial production is another story...

. . .
Forgive my ignorance but what will be the interest of S.K's Hyundai Rotem and german MTU for cooperating in this.
$$$$.

This tank may well become competitors of german and korean tanks in foreign market.
Well, Korean MoD didn't transfer everything. Some notable omissions.

1. Active Protection System. Automatically intercepts RPGs
2. Ceramic composite armor. Altay weigh 10 tons more than K2 because of this.
3. Ability to shoot down attack helicopters. K2 has a fire control radar to shoot down airborne objects. Altay doesn't.
4. Hydraulic Suspension System
5. Ability to cross 4.5 m deep river submerged.
6. An 8 km range stand off attack against mobile targer(UAV datalink required)

1. Active Protection System. Automatically intercepts RPGs --- People posted here that Korea offered limited coperation
2. Ceramic composite armor. Altay weigh 10 tons more than K2 because of this. ---
3. Ability to shoot down attack helicopters. K2 has a fire control radar to shoot down airborne objects. Altay doesn't. --- Turkey already has that capability thankts to our experience with modernization of Leopard 2s
4. Hydraulic Suspension System --- Already have that capability
5. Ability to cross 4.5 m deep river submerged. ---
6. An 8 km range stand off attack against mobile targer(UAV datalink required)

1. Active Protection System. Automatically intercepts RPGs --- People posted here that Korea offered limited coperation even if they don't do ant ToT, Korea is always happy to sell it weapons, specially to Turkey so no problem there.

2. Ceramic composite armor. Altay weigh 10 tons more than K2 because of this. ---K2 uses composite armor not ceramic armor. Altay weights more because Turkish army wants it to weight more... If you haven't realized we need heavy tanks because of Greek's M2a6s, Russian's T-90s.

3. Ability to shoot down attack helicopters. K2 has a fire control radar to shoot down airborne objects. Altay doesn't. --- Turkey already has that capability thankts to our experience with modernization of Leopard 2s

4. Hydraulic Suspension System ---Even Leo doesn't has this so it can't be that important if Germans didn't implant this to their tanks. :D

5. Ability to cross 4.5 m deep river submerged. --- Again, our FNSS company already has this tech too so if they want they can try to install this tech to Altays but it will cost time and money so I don't think we will go there when we can build AABs for crossing rivers.

6. An 8 km range stand off attack against mobile target(UAV datalink required) --- Don't have any idea about this... But I see no reason for this when we have the capability to bombard any place by coordinates gained via ANKA, Herons and other indigenous UAVs.

1-Aselsan AKKOR program has nothing to do with Korean ASPS.If Aselsan AKKOr can't defeat coming RPG automatically, No need to develop it...
2-Altay has much heavier than XK-2 because Altay has bigger chassis and turret (maybe armour protection, size (?)) which is designed to meet the Turkish Army's requirements.
3-Altay is able to shot down attack helicopter thanks to Aselsan the latest generation FCS which all complex electronic control units are minimized to a card level. FCS technologies are the main expertise area of Turkey's electronic institutes...
4-Altay has torsion bar suspension system like Leopard 2A6, not Hyrdopneumatic like XK-2
5-Altay has designed to cross 4m deep rivers submerged.
6- When It came to UAV technologies, Turkey is way advanced thanks to Anka family UAV development program. Data transfer to tanks are just a matter of electronic unit that makes them connect. Anyway, We will see in trials...

Also K-2's powerpack has serious problems,i wonder it can be overcame within 1year or korean would choose MTU powerpack

BTW,just an example, the performance of T-155 was better than K-9 which breakdowned in the Bombardment of Yeonpyeong

.
I think Otokar got technical assistance in some areas like barrel and Armor. If you compare both tanks, you can see it they are totaly different ,technically and optically. Most of the electronic systems are domestic made .

USA-Turkey-S. Korean team entered into Australian howitzer program jointly against PZH-2000 Germany. In this team, Turkey was charged to supply T-155 Firtina FCS and electronics for Australian Howitzer program, While Korea chassis, USA datalink..etc. In this tender, Aselsan guaranteed Australian officials to supply a FCS which will be effective even more than 50km's. I don't know the current situation of this tender...

To reach really detail information about How advanced Altay FCS, Watch Leopard2NG video of Aselsan because NG program is commenced to test the Altay FCS on a Leopard 2A4 chassis...

Awesome specs, I can't read the kanjis i'm unfamiliar with, but it's still nice to get the specs.
