Altay tank prototype to be introduced at summer's end

Delivery will start at 2015 I guess.

That prototype will probably not have armor and weapon systems or many of the other systems, just to see its performance on terrain.

More prototypes will be producd in following years. This prototype is to test mostly moving sections such as chassis. In parralel with trials, the updates will be applied to Altay in accordance with referances taken from trials... Mass production will be strated in 2016-17. The project is in critical design phase already...

Final Altay will be more or less like that...

Forgive my ignorance but what will be the interest of S.K's Hyundai Rotem and german MTU for cooperating in this. This tank may well become competitors of german and korean tanks in foreign market. And is turkey developing the engine of the tank by itself?

After reading the article it seems that germany will be providing the engine with some sort of TOT
perhaps but that restrict turkey's freedom in exporting the tank. They will need to seek S.K
and german permission. Turkey should develop a back up engine by itself which should not be
tough considering turkey have a robust auto industry.

Turkey is already developing an engine for tanks. First batch (250 tanks) of the Altay will use MTU engine, later versions of it will use home-made engines.

i think we can export it obviously.

No one can trust German export laws. They blocked Fırtına exports to Azerbaijan, later problem solved with using non-German engine.

The altay project is turkeys own project. It has nothing to do with the germans or koreans. Otakar is developing and producing the altay along with aselsan roketsan and others. Otokar will only get technical support from rotem where it is needed. And mtu is providing the power pack for the prototyps. In the meantime turkish firms are competing for the development of the national powerpack family.

isit that easy to make an engine ? if we can make it we should have made it even before.

Well only the first and second batch will have MTU Engines, The other 2 will have domestic Turkish 1800hp engines. Turkey is developing an entire Engine family from 35Hp till 1800Hp. Hyundai Rotem doesnt have any share in the project or saying it only acts as a coach for the project. There is barrely Korean Technology involved in the Altay Tank project, They only tranferred Know-how not technology.

.
They might prefer electric engines.

read carefully bro

Turkish Ministry of National Defense to produce goods tank engine from the special team was assigned. The team, Rector of ITU. That gives information about details of the study due to ITU General Coordinator Prof. OTAM. Dr. Ali Göktan, "Tank engine, which targets the others, and a big engine. There are special methods of producing this engine. Our laboratories have worked on the development of the engine. ITU interested in production of the first engine prototypes. Defense Industries to develop the engine for the vehicle and the university for 30 years, imagines the Turkish engineers. The brain of a motor vehicle. A local tank (Altai) are developing, the engine must be indigenous, "he said. Rector of ITU. Dr. Muhammed Sahin said on the subject: "The University provides added value to each of the last 3 years, the country's economy brand realizes the most important projects. Tank engine is one of those projects. National tank engine project, which is the strongest candidate TÜMOSAN, for many years, safe in his successful co-operation, are prepared to implement the project in collaboration with ITU-OTAM. Topics related to the international well-known, experienced R & D organizations to contribute to the project, the development of national tank engine, successfully, while the national character of the engine family to be the first step for our industry and we believe a very important development. Well actually personnaly i am looking forward to see the AKKOR Active protection system in service, Which would be installed at the first 2 prototypes. I already know the performance will be good, Most tanks always did good on trials even the Arjun did well so i have no doubt to better organized Altay Tank Project will be a succes.

This is what i am wondering too , since Altay will be the most expensive tank of course there has to be an active protection system againts rpgs.Perhaps this is what we took from koreans , know to how their active protection system.
